Depo Provera is a very slow-acting and long-lasting drug when administered by IM injection. Its onset is listed as "Weeks" and even its peak value is listed as "Months" and unlike most other drugs, there is nothing listed as to duration. This comes from Lippencott's Nursing Drug Guide. In its most common use as a birth control monotherapy for women, it is administered and effective at 3 month intervals. So be careful in assuming that either you have reached a nice steady state of hormone reduction or at the other end, that you have waited and are sure that the DP has left. And remember that your physical feelings and effects of low testosterone is a very lagging indicator of testosterone blood levels.

You really can't compare the use of DP as female birth control to DP as a chemical castration agent. For one, it takes so little of the synthetic progesterone (provera) to disrupt the womans reproductive system compared to the amount it takes (large) to disrupt a mans testosterone production.

WHile 1 shot every 90 days works great for a womans bith control, it would need to be used every 3 or 4 weeks for an effective T lowering agent.

Yes, but it is still in his system which is what he was inquiring about.

Thank you Clysmaniac and Ramses for your postings. I agree with both.

My understanding (which can be completely wrong) is that DP "realeses" the same amount of provera during the 90 days that it lasts. If this is true I should be feeling the same way during that time frame. However I do not know if our body overrides the effect producing more T and that is the reason you need a shot more frecuently than women.

Do you have any specific knowledge about how this works in a male body? Thank you.

The male body confuses DP for testosterone so it slows production of T. It is a totally different method of lowering T than androcur.
