It appears that both Kizahakan and Taylor have bought into the Great Moral Panic that currently surrounds pedophilia. Certainly it, and anything else that seriously harms children, is one of the worst crimes imaginable. However, it needs to be put into perspective and examined much more rationally.

I have read some surveys on sex offenders on the net. This is mostly about teenagers not children.

It appears that most vulnerable are those teenagers, who have lost a true contact with their parents. They have only formal contact with their parents. On the net they are seeking for someone who could listen to them and who actually care about their true problems (which sometimes are more invented than true problems) As teenagers already have their hormones at work, they are easy pray for manipulating adults.

Most children do have an excellent protection against people they shouldn't trust. They smell it, they feel it, a sixth sense. They don't understand the danger from internet, as this is only a small part of a real conversation. Because they don't catch a bad feeling they trust to easy........

But why are they going on internet to find someone who can listen? Is that maybe because in public nobody dares anymore

I have mixed feelings on this issue myself. When I was 14 going on 15, I found out the joys of internet chat. Growing up I was very socially awkward. My parents never let myself or my brother go far from the home, and at the same time never let us have friends over, so we missed out on a big part of the social learning process. As such, my socializing turned to that of the internet. At the same time, I was dealing with problems of same sex attraction. Whether or not this was due to my lack of social relationships with other boys my age, it also led me to seek out understanding individuals online. There I ran into a gentleman that told me he was 26, and although I later found out he was really 35, we ended up meeting and he "took advantage" of me as I guess most of you would say. It could be my own personal integrity, but I don't feel this has negatively affected me. I'm 25 years old at the moment and in college and am attracted to guys around my age - the same issue i had before the encounter. I can understand how in some cases such experiences could cause psychological problems; however, and I feel that acting on desires itself is the greatest crime of all. Unfortunately, I guess many people can't keep their fantasies in their head where they can't harm other people. Hopefully the EA allows them an outlet where they can express their fantasies safely, so they don't end up hurting anyone in real life. By the way, you're post led me to think that you're making the assumption that all sexual predators are homosexual men. This is untrue. If you do research you'll find that a great many are heterosexual men. And there are pedophilic women as well...

I've heard of teenagers seeking to be "emancipated" by a court of law so that they could "consent" as a minor.
