If you miss on either getting your testosterone low enough or not doing it long enough then you will see some changes. Testosterone tests are varied with different labs having different ranges of "normal" numbers so its not always possible to accurately compare with others. My feeling is that if your T level is about or less than 1/4th their lower level you should be reasonably castrated chemically. You're going into uncharted waters for your body so you may think you are fully castrated because you have a number of the symptoms of low T but you have no way of knowing how low is low without testing.

The others are right in saying that some of the effects of low testosterone can be very slow to show themselves. A T test answers the how low question but the how long question is more ambigious. I would say the longer, the better to stay on chemical castration. The other thing Bobbie taught me but hasn't said here is that probably the last effect of low T to show up is bone loss. Osteoporosis isn't just for women anymore. Since there are no symptoms, you'll never know this until something bad happens or you get a bone density test. Its funny that the same disease is caused by low estrogen in women as is caused by low testosterone in men. In the short run, take some calcium suppliments.

Clysmaniac,

Thanks for the reply to me and the other readers. I learned about osteoporosis on this site and started taking supplements the same time that I started with the androcur. It remains my biggest concern. Your advice on T levels is also welcomed. I've never found out what is actually meant to be at castrate level. I've seen different figures mentioned, some seemingly rather high and some very low. I will continue to have myself tested regularly and make sense of the results; however, and not just rely on my subjective experiences.

My T levels were checked the second week of February along with my cholesterol levels. My doctor said the normal range, at least per his definition, is 240 - 850 ng/dl. Mine is 256. He wants the tests repeated in August. In the meantime I've started taking Premia and herbal supplements to drop the levels further. :D

The problem with defining what is a castrate level of testosterone is that a castrated man doesn't have 0 T, there is still some made by the adrenal glands. I have read things where the general number of 50ng/dl was considered castrated. But then you have to consider that T tests from different labs have different "normal" ranges so there really is not a single, hard-and-fast number to designate "castration level". I had 2 testosterone tests done at my doctors office and both came back with different normal ranges quoted. The first gave me a 95 with a normal range of 280-1080 and a second four months later gave me a 44 on a normal scale of 175-745. I don't know enough to know why different labs measure this differently. The first one had my T level at 1/3 of the lower normal range and the second was at 1/4.

Androcur really seems to take its time.......

I am using it for 1,5 years now, and the last six weeks, I was on 250mg/day

I still can wank, have sex and so on. The uncontrolled early morning erections are gone, and I don't find myself in problems in all kind of situations that turn me on. It is up to me now.

But until last two weeks, I couldn't feel any changing in the side-effects of testosterone, so not the sexdrive, but getting angry, getting scared, being selfish.....

Like I said, it seems that androcur takes a real long time. The last two weeks, I get the feeling that these negative effects of testosterone on my nature are fading away....

My god let this be true, this feeling is absolutely great. This is what I 've been looking for.

I feel so happy, like I say this feeling is just GREAT. If it stays this way, this will also take away my last doubts about a real castration. Yeh, I was already sure I wanted that, but there was that one and only question left: What if it doesn't work, what if those negative feelings stay with me after the operation.

If my feelings stay the same as they are now, I can forget about those doubts, It does work

This feels better then an orgasm, and it is lasting 24 hours a day

I have been on and off been taking Androcur for almost 4 years already, supplemented by Tamoxifen.

When I first started, I took only Androcur, and at high levels, like 200 mg/day. But I never completely stopped my libido, though my erections became weaker and ejeculate became clear and later dry.

Then I learned about Tamoxifen and cut my Androcur dosage to 25 mg/day (sometimes as low as 12.5 mg (ie, 1/4 pill), and Tamoxifen at 10 mg/day (sometimes returning to 20 mg/day when I needed to stop achy nipples and breasts). I had my T checked a year ago and found it at around 190, certainly below the normal range of 240, but still not completely gone.

I too feel chill attacks out of the blue, especially during sleep. I have yet to experience hot flashes.

The reason I liked my much lowered dosage is I am achieve better results than at high levels of Androcur alone. My erections are all but a thing of the past, which I was never able to achieve when on Androcur alone, no latter how high a dosage. What I can get are only semi-hard-ons (or more like swollen cock without getting hard). I can still cum, but with much effort, and now the ejeculate is back to whitish clear liquid.

My desire for sex is by and large gone. I enjoy intimacy more now, and if it includes sex, I actually like my staying soft throughout and never cumming. I can feel just as satisfied after the experience.

As to all the side effects of low T that I had experienced when I took high levels of Androcur without Tamoxifen -- growing depression, feeling low, severe tireness, strong emotional reactions to the slightest provocation, chill attacks, and a mild case of anemia -- all eased off at my currently much reduced dosage.

Meanwhile, at the lowered dosage, I enjoy the eunuch calm, the lack of distractions from libido, and don't have to worry so much about osteoporosis.

Am I ready for the knife? I'd say no. I rather like the chemical (and thus controllable) castration. Frankly, I don't think my testicles would return to normal ever again. (I had recently taking a break from all meds for 90 days and got a big surge in gynecomastia, with really painful nipples, growing breasts and all. So I guess my body, by itself without any meds, is producing more estrogen and androgen.)

But they are not completely gone yet, as evidenced by my whitish ejeculate, and that after being off Androcur and Tamoxifen for 3 months, my libido comes back -- though very gently. The much reduced functionality of my testicles (helped by ocassional regiments of low doses of Androcur and Tamoxifen) seems to serve me fine, at least for now.

.

Thanks.

(i shortened your text to avoid long reproductions. Every on can read it)

I tried tamoxifen, didn't notice a thing. And my doctor orders Androcur for me and advised to stop Tamoxifen. I have no idea if Tamoxifen also has an effect after long use. But I never had problems with my libido. It is and was just average if my information is correct, and I never had problems to control it.

Somehow, it looked like I had nothing to complain. But I like the feeling that I can give love away, not needing anything in return. Maybe it makes me special, I don't know. But I love to be like that. I guess it's who I really am. And testosterone was always on the background, (under control) trying to tell me I should be some-one else. I wanted that whisper against my nature gone. I didn't want to fight it, I wanted to be free. I already lost trust in androcur as now this effect has set in. Hope it stays this way. I can reach an orgasm this moment, without any change of feelings for what I am doing to my partner. Nothing is over at the moment I finished my load, and there is zero need to reach that orgasm. This feels great, I love it.

I agree, staying on chemo is an option. On the other hand, If I feel really happy this way, a surgical castration would turn me into who I am.

I hope you can understand what I mean...Now it is not really me, but some-one else with a handful of drugs, I want to be me

Any advice, any comments and any questions are welcome

for almost five months, and experienced the same castration effects. However, my first T test last week showed only a borderline normal T level. Since I want to experience the full effects of being castrated, I decided to raise my dosage to 75mg for now. Otherwise, I'll never know if this is what I want in the long run.

ise, I'll never know if this is what I want in the long run.

I get your feeling. Somehow, I am not sure what to do next. I want to be sure about a permanent decision. So it may be a good idea to stay a little longer on chemo. But this dose of 250mg/day is a bit high. What about other risks. Maybe in a week I try to come back at 150mg/day as the Vietnamese urologist advised me. But it just started, I don't want to loose this feeling. I lost my dreams about this as at the end it happened.

As others on this site have advise, the longer test run that you give it the more informed decision you will make in the end. You have to make sure that you are at true castrate levels while you are taking the medication too. Otherwise, you experience will be misleading. Don't be in a hurry. Get tested regularly. If you can do it under a doctor's supervision, all the better.

Sorry for my ignorance, but isn't it so that Androcur is blocking T receptors from T influence in your body and is not reducing T production directly? Thus, making T tests shouldn't give too relevant indication about "castration levels"?!

So T is still flowing in your veins, only it is useless to your body?

Thus T level decrease is a result of testicle athropy indirectly induced by androcur rather than stopping testicles to produce T directly?
