I can attest to the fact that threats play a role in formation of the idea and perhaps obsession in a boy's mind. I figure that in 2 years, we'll be seeing one of Nephew2's little buddies on here when he turns 18 and can post. I will keep an eye on IP's for him. I can actually relate to that....

The same goes for so much similar. The reaction of the adults is likely a contributing factor in whether something like this re-occurs. If there is no shock value or attention given , part of the fun and uniqueness is taken away.

The root of the problem is that children do not have the same sense of when an adult is making a real threat or just a snide or cute rmark. Children tend to take adult's remark quite seriously - even one said in jest.

Never threaten your children with mutilation! Sigmund Freud was right.

This is exactly why I said that I would offer him a nice spank, and not just threaten him with that, but if he needs it, make it reality. Something he can feel and understand. And if after the punishment you show him love and tenderness there will be very little harm done.
