There are parts to your sex drive? And for that matter, good parts? Anyway, the "couldn't if I wanted to - not that I do" thing sounds perfect to me. I'd looked into SSRIs before, but as I said earlier, telling people you want your libido gone is like saying you don't like Christmas. They give you this look like you're mad and you don't know what you're missing. I'll see if I can find myself some paxil. Thanks.
P.S. Can anyone else vouch for the stuff?
I would listen to A-1, what he says certainly rings true to a large degree, although I must have been depressed for the last 30 years as I have always had a maniac sex drive....lol
I have never tried paxil (probably never will), but from what I understand it is a fairly vicious SSRI, I don't mean to sound rude but you sound like you really want to rush into something. All I want to say is don't rush into anything, you can seriously screw yourself up with any drug that alters your mental state or hormonal state and you could very well end up far worse than you are now.
There are some scary tails of people trying to withdraw from SSRIs, not that they are physically addictive but one can have a reliance on them just the same.

Oh, you're not being rude at all. I very much want to rush into this. I've dealt with this infection since I was ten years old. I've tried every avenue I know of to try and curtail the problem, but it seems that, to quote a Smashing Pumpkins song, "despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage." I'm at the point now where I'm pretty much ready to risk health complications for the chance to be free.
As for being depressed, I don't think that's the problem. I mean, maybe it is, but I kind of doubt it. I don't really feel depressed, though emotions are a funny thing. I usually just try and bury mine with copious amounts of sarcasm and callous. It's not even that my libido is over-active, really. It's just that it is completely fucked up. I mean, this site being what it is, you people have probably come across worse/stranger than my particular affliction, but I'd still say mine is pretty damn deviant. Regardless of how bad it is in the scheme of things, though, I want it gone, and even if the price to pay is crushing depression, I think I'd rather that. I tend to derive a unique energy from pessimism anyway, probably from some desire to prove wrong all those naysayers who claim you'll never accomplish anything without a positive outlook on life.
The way I see it, the situation I find myself in sucks. Castration, chemical or physical, seems to me the only way out. I may indeed wind up worse than I am now. But I may also wind up better. It's a roll of the dice, and I'm willing to chance it.

I scare everybody off or something? Oh well. Guess I have all or most the info I need, really. Thanks all.

I am taking 20mg of Paxil per day for the treatment of depression, and am finding that it has also eliminated my libido. Like almost any other medication, it can have uncomfortable side effects for some people, but you could also experience those from the castration drugs that you might try, which could be especially problematic if you were not under the supervision of a doctor.
I was on Paxil once before, and found Evening Primrose Oil capsules beneficial when the time came to withdraw from it, even though I made it harder for myself by not withdrawing as gradually as I should have done. In between the periods of taking the Paxil, I tried for a number of years, to cope without antidepressants, but my quality of life was the poorer for it. In the end, I had to just swallow my pride and take them, and now I feel a lot better.
I cannot understand why a doctor would refuse to help you, as Paxil is used to treat the condition that you have described. If your GP is not showing proper understanding of your needs, then you can always look for one who will be more cooperative.

Best I can figure is that they believe in this delusional fantasy of a happily ever after with a loving spouse and a healthy sex life, and can't bring themselves to help me "deny" myself that. I suppose it's something akin to why a doctor would not recommend suicide as a means of eliminating stress, but on a less severe scale.

Many people here can relate to exactly what you are saying. I used depo provera then androcur but I couldn't handle the grogginess and depression. I felt better on the DP but kinda crashed on the CA. Maybe I wnt to far? Who knows. I started taking 40mg/day of generic prozac and it only costs $10 for 3 month supply. I don't have any unpleasant side effects that I can think of. Just stay away from Effexor as it can screw you up. It's best used for someone that has tried everything else for depression.
