Dr. Spector told me there would be an open as long as there was drainage. Both Dr. Spector and Dr. Kimmel use disolving stitches, I never had to have them removed.

All my work was done by my urologist. He even removed my scrotum in August. My testicles were rempoved in 2005. the reason he offered to remove my scrotum is because I asked about a plastic surgeon for the job. He decided he could do it. And he did a great job. reading all the problems you folks have had with removal through the ecrotum, I am glad mine were removed via the inguinal canal.

The reason they didn't re-suture the opening was because of the hematoma. They said with it present, the suture site wouldn't heal. I have been dealing with this for the past several weeks now and tomorrow I go to the urologist at 10am EST. Hopefully, they will give me good news. I will post my results of that visit as soon as I get home.

I was castrated by dr kimmel 6 months ago and i had a much better experience than you and kangan.
The Dr. told me that the larger your testicles were, that the more drainage there would be. Since your body tries to replace the lost tissue (or something). I was in the same place you were at on day 17, i could have taken the stitches out but i was still having drainage. It didn't make sense to me to take them out so i waited about 23 days i think. When i did take them out there was a little little hole, it looked like i got stabbed by the tip of a sharp pencil. I wasn't really thrilled about it and shook my fist east toward Dr. kimmel's office. I think part of it may be being in "pain" and wanting to blame it on someone. But it healed in about a day.
Dr kimmel really helped me out. Considering the horrible things i read about cutters and self castration horror stories... a couple loose stitches... not that big of a deal.
Ashley, if the stitches were so mangled why didn't they fix them at the ER ?

I guess that the real message here is that it is not all that simple and even with the best of care there can be some complications. It may have been more the lack of ability for Dr Kimmel to follow up and keep an eye on the progress of the healing process than of "botched" proceedures per se. I am really surprised that some infection did not get in through the large unhealed and finally unsutured cut.
I do know that some of the proceedures I have read about (professional I think) talked about leaving a drain in the bottom of the scrotum for a while presumably to deal with just this problem. On the other hand I have seen pix of completed casts sewed up tight so go figure.
All the more reason not to go to an amateur private cutter I guess. Ashley, thanks for the pix. They looked sore but not particularly infected. I had similar experience with come small experimentalscrotum cuts at one time i.e. couldn't keep them closed up but they finally healed just fine with no internal infection but messy looking outer appearance as they gradually closed up. Scared me out of doing any more in that area.
Good luck with the healing process. It would be really interesting to hear a genuine professional's view in this discussion

Welll, my visit with the urologist for < 10 minutes. H looked at it and put neosporin INFO the incision (which I thought was bad) and put a non-sterile 4x4 over it. He then said - See you in about a week. I am in the process of attempting to get another urologist. I think that doc doesnt know what he is talking about as he asked "Why did you have this done?", my response was "Prelude to SRS" and he said ... (are you sitting down?)... "What is SRS?"
Why... oh why am I getting all of the docs with issues. It's not fair. It just isn't.

Well... I had my appointment with the urologist and they (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) basically just put neosporin INTO the incision and put a dry 4x4 over it. Then they said... see you in a week... I was in shock. He didn't even look into the incision.
I have another appointment with a different urologist this coming tuesday. Just more delay before when I can be happy

It almost sounds as if you can go to Dr. Kimmel and get castrated, but you should be prepared to find another urologist before hand, someone to fall back on since Dr. Kimmel is not doing as good a job as he once did. I suppose it's still better then doing it yourself, at least you can tell your fall back urologist that Dr. Kimmel castrated you. The questions is, at what point will Kimmel say, "I can't do this anymore?" If you want to get castrated without going to a shrink, time is running out.+

Yes, but with the horror stories we've heard maybe anyone seeking help from Dr Kimmel needs a shrink?
Is seeing a shrink really that huge a deal? I'm thankful I did for my own peace of mind (pre surgery to know I was ok to do this) and of course because I had a surgeon who wasn't ancient and doing some questionable stuff.

Dr. Kimmel is a licensed physician and surgeon in the State of Pennsylvania. His status is Active, and his license expires on 12/31/2008. Daate of original issue was 9/8/1955. So at least he is current. No complaints listed either....
But another item that keeps nagging at me is the fact that he requests payment strictly in the form of a postal money order. Is he cheating on his income taxes? Or is he operating "under the radar" of an audit trail via banking records?
Too many mysteries surrounding this doctor.....
