Just a small point, you did not mention if you ran the scanner with the computor started in safe mode. You stand a better chance of success that AVG can delete the virus in safe mode. Worth a quick try

AVG also has a great Users Forum. Report your problem, and fellow users will try to help. The AVG staff probably reads this, so it's an easy way to let them know. Go to http://freeforum.avg.com/index.php?0

I tried bitdefender, etc. Thanks for the suggestions. In the end I spent three days running this and that which didn't work. I finally took it to my computer pro shop. It wasn't one of the really horrible viri. They said I had old versions of AVG and Spy Bot. I do not understand that, especially since I download AVG updates daily and Spybot at least once a month if not weekly. Anyway, I have new editions of AVG and Spybot from download.com, so lets see.

Arab Nights, your post made me curious, so I compared my software to what's available at download.com. I have AVG Free 8.0.175 (available at the AVG site), but download.com offers 8.0.173. I don't know if there's any meaningful difference. I also have Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6.0.30.

Apparently, the free versions of security software may not notify users of newer versions, even though they offer daily updates of existing versions. The same thing happened to me with Comodo's BO Clean. This week I discovered a new version by accident, even though I was still getting updates on the version I had.

That was my question. I am pretty good about updating daily. Why didn't I know that updating an older version would leave me vulnerable? The question applies to both AVG and SpyBot. I have no answer.

Apparently, AVG feels no obligation to notify free users. I suppose paying subscribers would be told.

AVG paid subscribers don't get sh*t, trust me.

I'll never deal with them, but for their freeware, again.
