I prefer to be addressed as "God", actually, but "Uncle" works for the boys. I also respond to any sudden, high pitched, loud noises that sound painful.

Congratulations, Paolo! And three cheers for all adoptive parents. It's a huge, difficult choice, but one of the greatest things a person can do, and Godparenting is no less important.

I'll take this chance to plug Big Brothers and Big Sisters, too. In central Canada, at least, they are starving for volunteers.

I missed it on the first reading: 13 hours in labour!

Never mind Paolo, his work is just starting. Think what Missy has already gone through. I for one salute her.

It occurs to me that if it were men who gave birth there would be a lot less fucking in the world - if our species hadn't already died out.
