I don't think there are many sacred cows around here, Randy. I contend even Jesus (he of the triumverate existance) would toss a giggle at the bumper sticker I referend to (although who knows, his Father side may toss a lightning bolt or two).

And, I think there may be contention in equating a simple jest re. a (one of many)religions' father-figure with a tasteless joke re. a valued recently departed member.

How about I change it to a fat-joke about Buddha, or a jape about Mohammed... or does one have to be a member of the religion to get offended at such stuff? What I'm getting at, is this is a rather non-PC board, on the jokes thread... how many subjects would one have eliminated here?

However, arguing this subject always sucks. Let's not turn this into a big pro/con religion debate; there are dozens of those elsewhere on the site.

I don't suppose you saw my post in another conversation thread, so I am re-posting it here. It seems germane to this conversation too, so here it is again:

I don't usually like to burst people's bubbles or dearly held mythologies, but speaking as a recovering Southern Baptist myself, I finally did some deep searching into the whole Christian thing, read tons of books and essays and documents, and found.... nothing. Outside of the gospels (now dated by many theologians and scholars and historians at 170-180 AD, there is no evidence that any such person as Jesus Christ ever existed. There are some proven forgeries, such as the Josephus passage (called the Testimonium Flavium), an ever-so brief passage about Jesus, but it's been shown to be a 4th century forgery. And even more curious, there are absolutely no contemporary writings by people who lived in Judea at the time and left a great deal of writings, and not a single one of them wrote anything about Jesus...no feeding the multitudes, no raising the dead, no healing the sick... nothing, almost (no..exactly) as if he didn't exist at all.

So believe what you want or need to believe, but if you go by the evidence, or the lack of it, a reasonable, rational person will come to the obvious conclusion that no such person existed. The entire church structure did not become widespread until after the Council of Nicea in 326 AD. Read "The Christ Conspiracy" and "Suns of God" by Acharya S. Or "The Truth About Jesus" by former minister M.M. Mangasarian (it's free online, just download it). ...or "The Jesus Puzzle" by Earl Doherty. There are many others, but these will get you started on the road to the truth.

Now, how does that relate to becoming a eunuch? Perhaps not at all, but I jsut thought it would be important to you in making such an unalterable decision to make sure you're doing it for the right reasons, not for some mythology you were taught, like I was, when you were young and have not given up yet. The truth really WILL set you free, so read the books I've mentioned about with an open mind. Happy trails.

It is not an attack on Jesus, but a put down on organized religion and all of the dogma bs that goes with it. If you do a search in the archives you will find my opinion on Christianity all over the place. Also, I think if Jesus was alive today he would join in on the fun.

And on the eighth day, after a much needed rest, God created humor, laughter, dance, music and art. God gave these gifts to mankind so they can enjoy each other and be creative. He received joy from watching His children enjoy the gifts. Being the Creator of humor He took no offense if He was the subject of a humorous moment.

Lighten up will you? You really don't want to hear all of my personal view and experiences with and about your faith and it's followers but you asked for it. Let the chips fall where they may.

To be quite honest I for one am rather sick of being told what to say think or laugh at by folks of your faith. I am sick of you Christians bitching out anyone who dares say one word about your faith yet you have plenty to say about others. You sure as hell can dish it out but you can't take it. I am sick of turning on my TV and getting bombarded with ads for your religions music books and Bennie Hines and his ilk. No other faith outside of Islam presumes to tell everyone what to do, say, eat, wear, think. You Christians try to ram your god and faith down ones throat and when people balk, you get all defensive and pissy and can't understand it. You dish out venom and hate all will chanting love they neighbor will raping children in church choirs and yelling hate filled speech at fallen soldiers funerals you say a person deserves aids as homosexuality is a sin, yet profess to love thy fellow man, you say do onto others as they do onto you yet you have reverends saying "God Damn America. You go and chop your balls off and say you are a Christian yet your bible says the body is Gods temple and sacrosanct. Your faith marched in to foreign lands spreading gods word on the end of a sword and gun destroyed whole peoples and civilizations for gold for your churches. I bet you cannot even to begin to comprehend why anyone can say this and that you will pray for my soul well save your breath. I don't buy into your mythos, it was stolen and warped and rewritten and in many cases perverted from older faiths then yours. Narrow minded brain dead zombies.
