Well, the page is complete, and 100% functional. That is, barring changes requested by the select team of beta testers who will shortly begin looking things over to point out the glaring flaws which I have somehow managed to overlook.
The rendering problem with IE is still unsolved, however it does not affect the functionality of the page, merely it's appearance. I'm content to let it be for now, as I cannot figure out a way to solve it currently. I hope that after a break from this project, I can come back to it and figure out what's going wrong.
Depending upon how fast the team gets back to me, the whole thing could go live before the week is out. Then begins the next challenge, perhaps the most requested remaining change. Redoing the story submission section. That one will take awhile, likely months at least. No holding your breath, please.

Can you make the page detect the browser, and if it sees IE, it can pop up something in the middle like "Get a real browser, Dumbass!"

This may perhaps be somewhat premature, but I fell I should hand a public warning out for any among us who may be metathesiophobic. (Look it up yourself if you want to find out what it means.)
The current plan, or at least my current plan, is to be deleting at least two pages from the EA by the end of August. Specifically, I am aiming to delete this page (
http://www.eunuch.org/story_index_picker.php), and this page (
http://www.eunuch.org/new_story_index.php). Ideally, I would also like to delete approximately 72 other 'pages', namely the title and author pages that go along with the two pages listed above.
Never fear though, no pages will be deleted until there are replacements available, and there is even a chance (no holding of breath, please) of a somewhat rudimentary search being installed, at least provided things go well.
I fully admit that August may be somewhat optimistic, as our team of monkeys is not quite infinite, and so it may take them somewhat longer to produce the necessary code. I do have every confidence that at some point though, they shall come up with something we can use.

Aside from the already-mentioned "because it's my way" there are actually a couple reasons.
The primary reason is to try and clean up some of the behind the scenes clutter and organize things a little better. It's something I've been wanting to do for quite some time now, but haven't been able to.
A secondary reason is partly to unify the site a little more in terms of how it looks, and partly to bring more of the site up to 'code' (official web standards).
Thanks to one of the members here (gator44), I was able to find and solve the Explorer problem. It wasn't anything major, the page was still completely usable, it just didn't look nice.

"because it's my way"
Knowing how much work running a site like this is, that would be sufficient for me.

I have used Netscape, Explorer, foxfire, symbian, linux. And foxfire, has had the best performance. Be thankful that someone is making improvements. Instead of following the blind status quo. Or do they call it Vista?

I cannot say that the new opening page for the Stories section is an improvement. Heretofore, it has been possible to access a summary (if the author provided one) of the story, especially a new story, to get an idea of what it was about without having to go to the story itself. I found this very convenient. What was accomplished by eliminating this feature ?

FWIW, while more attractive than the old page, I find the new story page harder to read, and it's much less compact and efficient. Perhaps if you could have the titles in a larger boldface or something, to make each story stand out, that might help, as would more contrast in the colors used. Reducing the number of blank lines might tighten it up a bit, too, and clearer distinction between posting dates would make it easier to pick out the new ones from the older ones.
