I agree that testosterone replacement is not the same as making your own. Whether it is as good or not depends on what your objectives are. Some people are undoubtedly happier with the differences. While replacement testosterone may do what it is supposed to do I suspect that there may be a multitude of minor substances that are not replaced and that affect the overall results. --FLO--

If you are worried about any side effects, the only thing to do is nothing.
Keep your body intact, unaltered.
Chemicals or castration come with undesirable and unhealthy side effects.
You have to want and need to be without sex drive, libido, regardless of side effects. Some people, even after becoming a eunuch still have diminished sex drive/libido.
First step then is to learn about all the possible side effects.
And find out what side effects can be overcome, and to what degree.
And what are the side effects of mitigating the original side effects.
If you have any doubt then delay doing anything until you are 100% sure you have no doubts, and you will accept any consequences or side effects and you will have no regrets. This is not a calculated risk type of decision.
In the case of castration,
wanting it and not having
it is far preferable
than having it and not wanting it.
And don't believe everything you hear or read.
There are people "out there" who will tell you what you want to hear because they get their jollies from controlling other people and getting them to do things that they otherwise wouldn't or shouldn't do.
Obtain input from trained qualified professionals during the decision making process.

New here. Have been chemicaly castrated for 7 years. no: erections, no sex. penis has shriveled so far that can't stand to pee 5 years. Testicles went the same way. One is the size of a small grape, the other has been absorbed into the body. Only hrt for last 2 years is a plant estrogen to keep me emotionally stable. The changes are permanent. Would like to hear from others. Robie

I'm at about the 4 year mark. Everything is kinda small, though I can still stand to pee. Still plan on eventually having them off, but I'm okay for the time being with inhibited testosterone. I'd assume my changes were permanent, but I've never stopped antiandrogens long enough to find out.
Nothing's been absobed yet, but I haven't been swimming in anything cold yet, so maybe there's hope.
(I'm also a newb here, so... Hi.)

Hi I'm new too, and would like to be castrated at some point. I've thought seriously about it for a long time now and would first like to try chemical castration, but does anyone know how you approach your doctor about this? I have a nasty feeling that mine will either; assume I'm joking, or freak out and send me to a counsellor pronto. Does anyone have any ideas about what I should/could do?

Hello Hadrian, I found, via an internet search, a doctor who works with transexual men and women. Don't know where you live, but, I'm sure if you live anywhere around a fairly large city you should be able to find one.

Thanks for the reply, though unfortunately I'm in the UK, so I have no idea where to start, the NHS website barely mentions transgenderism and as for anything eunuch related; not a thing. Any ideas anyone?
