Taking the big step...

Post by hawk (imported) »

Hi gang,

After much consideration my fiance and I have determined that castration is the answer for me. I've two failed marriages due to my sexual addictions and we've decided this is the proper course. If you want a different result, you change your approach, right?

I've had conversations with Dr. Spector and have enjoyed his candor. He has indicated that he no longer does the actual surgury and merely consults. A Dr. Kimmel does the surgury. Due to his advanced age, our conversation has not really answered one important question for us. That being can my fiance and I expect to be able to establish any kind of 'normal' sexual relations by using hormone replacement like patches. Are we fooling ourselves by assuming that, with the judicious use of patches we can control and schedule intercourse without bringing back full time libido? Also, is anyone aware of any other surgeons doing non-transgendered castrations and, if so, do you have their contact info? Looking for someone out west.

We're currently planning on flying to Philidelphia in July to do the deed so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hawk

Dr. Kimmel is indeed the new surgeon. He removed my scrotum last January and I had no problems. You will be in good hands with your glands. <G>

But as for a sex life after castration with Testosterone Hormone Replacement Therapy, that may be problematical. YMWV = Your Milage Will Vary. How old are you? Even without HRT, you may be able to function sexually, although at a greatly reduced level. On the other hand, you may be rendered impotent, as I was. On the gripping hand, HRT may or may not help. Take a deep breath and ask yourself this...if worst comes to worst and you are rendered impotent and HRT does not help, can you live with it?

Also, I hope you have been reading SJCs web site and her pages on castration issues. I can give you the URL if you missed my previous postings on this topic. And feel free to ask me any questions you think might help.

I was castrated 2 years ago, ingest testosterone (injections) and experience orgasms and ejaculations much as before castration. Andrew has a thing about YMWV, and I may thus be a special case.

Hawk,

In my case I became pretty well impotent about 1.5 years after castraion. I started HRT (injections) which turned me into a raging sexual animal, even worse then when I had balls, even though I was taking 10 percent of the recommended dosage.

I have been off HRT for about a year now, my sexual addiction is pretty well gone and good riddance. I am NOT impotent, but very sluggish and totally without desire. My ejaculations are dry, and now I have noticed (Andrew, I would appreciate your comments on this) I find my body hair is disappearing at a rapid rate. All of the above are just fine with me, but you might want to consider these things before you go ahead.

In my opinion HRT will not do what you want it to. Taking hormones occasionally will probably not restore your sexuality, nor will it go away immediately when you stop. It takes time to build up in your system, and it also takes time to go away.

As Andrew already said, you should assume worst case before you do the deed because results vary widely. But whatever you decide, we're all here for you.

Well, yes. You say you are going to take replacement testosterone, admittedly at a low level. OK, who is going to be giving it to you? A Urologist? Whoever it may be, why not make an appointment NOW, before the surgery, tell him your plans, and ask questions about the chances of your maintaining some sexual ability?

Remember, he cannot stop you from the castration if done by a liscened practitioner. It is NOT against the law to be castrated by someone like Dr. Kimmel. And a proper physician will defer to your wishes and want to help you afterwards.

At the risk of ticking off JeffEunuch yet once again, this is another YMWV aspect of eunuch biology. Some eunuchs have reported little or no change in body hair, either in the amount, or fineness, or growth rate. Others report that in a few years they have become close to hairless. I seem to be about halfway. I have had some of my body hair thin out, become softer, and grow slower. But I am a long way from the feminine ideal of hairlessness. By the way, pubic hair and underarm still grow as they did before castration. But remember I am only one year as a eunuch as of 14 May.

There's absolutely no risk of "ticking me off." I'm calm as a cucumber. It's simply important not to mix experiences of those on or not on HRT. Whether the same or different, the fact of HRT alters risks of one experience or another appreciably. But so do a lot o' other characteristics of individuals.
