how to view expired threads?

Post by jjxp6860 (imported) »

Is there a way to view expired threads? I posted a question a couple months ago and there were some helpful replies. I wish I had copied them to my hard drive but i didn't and now they are gone. Are they stored somewhere?

Thanks.

I do not think that there any expired threads. Some of the very early threads have been lost in computer crashes. The more recent one ally all sit in a computer ready to be opened if you look back enough. The threads are arranged by dates of last read. So if you are looking for a old thread you may have to go back my pages to reach the last read. If no one posted to a thread from lets say July 31, 1999. You would have to go to threads of that time period.

The more simple way is to do a search on the threads by the search function on the option bar near the top of the page. Selecting the key word or phrase could also be a problem. It could bring up may threads.

Some threads are joined together from times to time. Could be two threads started by the same person on the same topic days apart. It could look like a thread was deleted.

Some threads are deleted. The content of the thread was not up to the standards of the site. Verbal abuse of another person will be a good way to have a post or thread be removed. These are not expired. They have a bomb sent under them and blown up.

Best of luck hunting.

Other than though a major system crash – which the Archive has had – threads are only removed for very good cause. All spam is taken down, as are flame wars and advertisements by cutters. Other than those, everything else is still available, the older threads just cycle off the front page of the relevant board. There are two easy ways to find your old threads:

1) Go to the bottom of the relevant first page of the relevant board (e.g., Eunuch Central) and find the bar that says “Display Options.” The default is to show the threads from the last month. You can change that to show threads from as far back as the beginning of the Eunuch Archive. The system crashes only destroyed posts made between the most recent full back-up and the time of the crash – usually not very long. Eunuch Central has over 2,000 threads available.

2) The more efficient way, which works ONLY if you are a member and logged in, is to go the to top of the front page of the Bulletin Boards. There is a blue bar that gives a lot of options, some available to everyone, such as FAQ, others are visible only to members who are logged in. One such option is <Search>, which opens a drop-down menu. On that menu click on “Advanced Search” and full page opens with search options: keyword(s), name of the person posting, date range to search, etc. This could lead you directly to the exact thread that you are seeking.
