Testosterone Levels

Good Morning. I went to my urologist today for my semiannual checkup. My Testosterone test came back as 2.8 witht he computer printout saying that the range fro males was 1.8-7.8 ng/dl. My PSA was 1.24 with the Male range being 000.0-4.00 ng/dl.

The Dr. was pleased with where my testosterone levels are. Being 71 I guess that is good.

Oddly enough, in Jan. when the test was run it came back with a level of 2.1 ng/dl for my testosterone. I have always had the blood test on a day I applied my Androgel.

This time, I had to do it on a day that I had not applied my Androgel. And it came back higher that the Jan. test. Hopefully that is normal. I am leaning toward redoing the test in Jan without applying the androgel and see what the results are.

BTW I only use the Androgel every other day a five (5) gram tube.

I guess I'll live if I don't die.

I'm curious as to why you take one tube of Androgel every other day instead of taking half a tube every day to keep your testosterone more level?

I'm on Testim and playing with the dosage to find what suits me best. So far half a tube every day seems close but I may try less next month.

You mean 210 ng/dl right? Because that sounds about right for that dose of gel.

Maybe I'm missing something about tubes of Androgel. I take Testim, also alcohol based, and the tubes are sealed plus they have a screw-on cap that has a point at the opposite end to break the seal. When you poke a hole in the sealed end, you can take out however much you want and then screw the cap back on to save the rest for another day. Isn't Androgel similar? If it isn't resealable, then why not go for the Androgel pump where smaller quantities can be taken?

I suppose that is what it was. The printout had it as 2.1. Anyway, the Dr. was pleased with the reading

A tube would be Testim perhaps you may need 1 tube a day as this is the ormal range usually, I know a few guys who are my age that use 5% a day sometimes even 10%.

Just wait and see how everything works for you.

Androgel is available in 2.5mg packets as well.

Testim comes in a tube for 1 tube to 2 a day.

To function properly everyday I would need 2 I am 25, some factors range around your age as well as many other factors.

Has been working for three years now. I was on Testim first...5 gm tube daily and had to have "it" every night, sometimes twice. I felt that that was too hard on my heart at 68. I have approached the Dr. on the 2.5 but he thinks it only comes in a pump at that level. I have not taken the brochure to him to show him it comes in a pack also. But the 5gm pack every other day is doing me well.

BTW, Androgel is more costly than Testim. At least it was when I switched. So far Insurance has not complained about it. Maybe with the new drug pricing for the fed. govt. it will come down more in price. Have thought all along that it costs too much. There have been some that have mentioned going to a drug store that mixes their own but have not found one close by here. (A compounding pharmacy). One or two that mentined it said they only paid about 65.00 for a month's supply but I have not been able to confirm that.
