A nearby doctor is treating several youngsters (some toddlers, including girls) who went into puberty after having normal and appropirate light contact (e.g. hugs) from fathers or other relatives on topical T. It really is a thing, so be careful. Wash hands well, etc, etc. It's the topical gel that does it, not contact with clean skin of a guy receiving the treatment, but it only takes a small amount to mess a kid up.
The deal with precocious puberty is that the brain (probably the pituitary) gets triggered and starts signaling the gonads to produce the appropriate hormone (for the gonad in question, not for the age of the child). Lupron, as mentioned, tricks the pituitary into shutting that down, but it is VERY expensive and only available as a shot, and insurance companies aren't eager to pay for it; but it is the treatment for precocious puberty. Without the signal from the pituitary, the gonads stop producing the hormone, but the shots have to be continued until the doctor and parents figure the time is right for puberty to begin. And then there is the question of whether normal functioning will start on its own, after the pituitary has been abused that way for so long.
The relationship between gonads and pituitary is a feedback cycle, apparently. The pituitary (in a mature person) detects when the level of hormone is too low or too high, and signals the gonad to correct the situation.

The warnings about testosterone in gel form are certainly completely justified and very valuable. But that's not what it's all about in the first place. I am concerned with reducing the T level to a level that reduces my libido to a tolerable level. In the hypersexuality that I have, I think that the aforementioned feedback between the pituitary gland and the gonads is not working properly, and that is the problem I want to solve. From my point of view two ways are possible: An antinandrogen in low dose (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicalutamide) or surgical castration plus artificial testosterone e.g. as Testogel or similar. If you want to do a test drive before surgical castration, that seems to me the appropriate way. I will talk this through with the endocrinologist this week though.

I looked this up after seeing it on the TV show "House MD". As it turns out, the show was very well researched, and gellyfreggy is correct. This can actually happen.
