Hemorrhoid cream will help, but the best thing I have found is a good sized butt plug. It seems to compress the hemorrhoids and that is good. Besides, it can be a fun toy.😄

Oh shit... you had to ask this question, eh :p

Yeah, I've had them... twice or three times.

First time was 10 years ago when I hung out at a clothing-optional resort in Quebec. I sat on hard, wooden stumps around the campfire frequently. The hemorrhoid I got was so huge I named him (Herbie, same name I gave my hernia three years ago; both were unfortunate bulges involving bowel-areas, so I named them after the love-bug).

It was so bad I couldn't really sit, and walking was a pain, too. On about the 4th day, I went to a doctor, it was so sore. I went, but then chickened out while waiting in the office; too nervous of the pain of whatever he was going to do.

Fortunately, that night, when I went to the outhouse, low and behold, the little bastard broke off. INSTANT relief when that happend, although I bled for a good hour afterwards. It's VERY important that you keep that spot clean and covered when that happens, though; a phone-call to the doctor revealed that of course, infection is terribly easy 'down there'. Doctor also said it's common for them to either just shrink back on their own or break/rupture and get gone that way.

Generally, the creams don't do a damn thing; two doctors I've asked about it both say the only thing you get from the creams is a bit of ANALgesic (what an apropriate word) pain relief, so I didn't waste money on them when I got one a few years later; I just wait it out, painful as it is.

Never lasted more than about a week, for me.

I avoid them now by NEVER sitting on overly-cold seats or overly-hard seats without a pillow or something; those actions are the cause of most hemmorhoids. Pushing too hard when pooping is the other cause, and I make sure not to use excessive pressure then, either.

Damn I hate those little things...

I like to drink, and to do that I sit on barstools..enough said. I tried suppositories and (for me at least) they were horrible. The insertion, while a bit unpleasant, wasn't that bad...but they made my rectum itch like all hell. Were they effective? Yes, yes they were, but I will never use them again. What you can do if you have them is to use hydrocortizone cream and just rub the area on the outside of your rectum until the swelling goes down a bit (this may take about 24 hours), after that you can place some on your finger and insert your finger. The cortizone 10 (or a generic knock off) is usually cheaper than preperation H (or it's knock offs) and works in the same way.

I had one, maybe 8 or 10 years ago. When I could no longer bear it, nor sit on it, I went to the friendly pharmacy in my neighborhood, and very shyly asked if they had anything useful in such an afflictive situation. They sold me a cream that contains a mild local anaesthetic (lidocaine), and something that reduced the swelling.

I applied it, and.... that was how I discovered that I'm allergic to lidocaine! I blushed fiery red, from the location of that darn little thing, all around the globus (well, both of them), and up and down and everywhere! Looked like a mandrill for the better part of a week, on my southern end at least!

The hemorrhoid ended up being the smaller evil, even if it lasted for a good month.

Fortunately this has been my only encounter with such a thing.

I used to get them mildly 25-30 years ago but only when I was not taking B and C vitamins, which seem to help the condition of all my soft tissues, from gums at my inlet end right on down to the outlet in question.

I had a painfull episode back in 2001 and it hurts like hell. It seems that one of the best way to treat them these days is for the doctor to use this device that looks like an elastrator and it puts a little rubber doughnut around the "roid" and it falls off after a few days.

I don't know about anyone else but that doesnt sound to comfortable...

I had them internal and external. Also a variety of other back door issues from chronic constipation from my (then) BP meds. Once I got off them and on better ones I went to a rectal doctor who said "surgery" and I was told I had a lot of problems. I am 100% recovered and its great. However it was 6 weeks to get better and some of that hurt a lot.

If you do consider surgery email me I'll give you a list of things to do that I WISH to hell someone had told me.
