Re: does surgical castration work as much as chemical castration
I'm chemically and mechanically (burdizzo) castrated...and i'm still left with annoying, uncomfortable, unsightly, and often painful bits between my legs that i'm almost desperate to have gone. Chemical castration reduced the size of my balls by about 30%, maybe a little more. but they are still there and a constant reminder of my past life. my surgery is scheduled for 11/2/13 (just 11 days from today) and i'm very excited and looking forward to it. For me...surgical castration is the best and only answer. Everyone has a different reason...for me...surgical castration will do what chemical castration hasn't.

Surgical castration is permanent. Chemical castration can be reversed if you stop taking the chemicals

Unless you spend too long on it. After some time testicles do atrophy and do not recover. Also - sterility is also possible even if hormone production recovers.

Re: does surgical castration work as much as chemical castration
I had a bilateral orchiectomy. I had to prove to my Urologist that I had chronic bilateral testicular pain, that had gotten worse for 20 years after a vasectomy. I went without testosterone for about 8 months after my orchiectomy. I am now on TRT. I told my Urologist that I want no sex drive, but my wife would like to have sex once in a while, so he keeps my testosterone level between 150 and 200. At this level I can still get hard enough with a vibrator and a cock ring to have sex with my wife when she wants it. Sex does nothing for me, but I do it to keep her happy. My wife is happier since my orchiectomy. I am much calmer. I stay at home and do not roam. My penis is probably 1/3 smaller that it was before the orchiectomy. This seemed to happen after I went 8 months without testosterone after the orchiectomy. I generally do not touch it except to urinate. It was the best think I ever did.
