Broken Monitor

Post by noxmagnus (imported) »

I have an Eee PC with an LCD monitor. Last night it got knocked off of where it was sitting and get a crack in the screen going tight down the middle. It's still usable, but unsightly and annoying. Can anyone tell me if it can be fixed, and if so, how much it's likely to cost?

I would venture to say that it will cost you more to replace that monitor than it would to buy a new computer.

Never heard of a cracked monitor being repaired. You might call a few repair places and ask what can be done and how much it would cost. If you don't like what you hear, you'll probably need a new monitor. If you shop carefully online - don't overlook E-Bay - you should be able to get a good monitor for a reasonable price.

well it's an attached monitor, so I'm not sure it can be replaced. But I've heard it's possible for a person to open the screen itself up and replace the panel or something that has the actual damage. The whole monitor isn't damaged, there's just a crack in the from part of the LCD screen. Screen still works there's just an unsightly bit going down the middle and some discolored spots.

Call some repair shops and the manufacturer to ask what can be done. Maybe someone else here knows more. Also, a Google search might turn up something useful. There must also be boards with expert responders.

The simple answer is NO

If you don't have a victim/donor with working panel but other dead parts - you'll end up paying at least half of the cost of the monitor, probably more.

Not to mention the difficulty of actually finding the right panel.

The entire laptop is only $300.... I have no clue how much a monitor for it is.... they don't tend to come off.

Whoops, I am sorry, I somehow misread that it was a standalone monitor.

Quick googling on topic gave me this:

http://www.oshady.com/eeepc/ - the procedure of screen replacement on EEE 901

http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php?cPath=66920 - and spare parts

PS. Haven't used the service so can't say anything about their reliability.
