What worked for your friend could very easily not work for you.

Cost of 911, emergency room, could be horrendous.

Cost of funeral not all that much, but then, cost of loosing your life is a high price to pay.

My intense desire to be surgically castrated has not overshadowed my sanity.

If I can't get it done medically correct I am doomed to be uncastrated for life.

To each their own. It's your choice. The commonly accepted answer however is do not have any surgery performed by an unlicensed medical professional.

ER can be paid by the insurance company. All depends on what the reason for going to the ER is. If the service could be handled through other means it could be rejected for ER service is many times more expensive. Going to have a sliver removed, a scratch bandaged may not be covered.

Going to the ER for self inflected wounds, most insurance company will not cover. Being castrated by a non doctor would be such a case. It can cost several hundred dollars just to walk in an ER.

All surgery, no matter who does it or where, carries some risk. About 100,000 people died in the US last year from complications following surgery. More operations are performed in the US than anywhere in the world - about 60,000,000 last year(!) - with health results no better than many countries with fewer operations.

The general health of the patient affects results. Anything that weakens a person, including the circulatory stress caused by overweight, increases risk. If the surgery is in response to a medical emergency, these concerns may be set aside, but for voluntary surgery that may be postponed, your doctor is right to suggest you strengthen yourself before going ahead. Any major surgery stresses your whole body, so best to be prepared.

I agree with Bobover on this one, even though I believe that you could be castrated this very day (even with the smoking habit and excess weight) and you would still probably recover completely with no complication... Still, by compelling you to do TWO VERY HEALTHY THINGS (quit smoking and lose excess weight) the doctor is just increasing the safety margin, and since what the doc is asking of you is good for you anyway, why not at least try to do these two things first. Besides, if you quit smoking and lose a little weight, you will be all the more better off once you are a eunuch.

If you still are going to insist on gambling with eternity,then at least make sure the op location is near a hospital. Even better, why not, fly you and your cutter to England, to do it their? If it were to go wrong;you would receive free medical care to put it right and you could go back home with a big smile and all woman. Your Choice ,remember, the Grim Reaper, needs his Quota and does not give second chances.

We're not that charitable.

The basic qualification to get free on-demand health care is to be ordinarily resident here.

The NHS is under a legal obligation to recover any and all costs incurred from those who use the service without entitlement. And it does.

Why would the ER be free? I think there are massive costs involved in operating an ER.
