as he was testifying in the dock. As I understood she was never prosecuted

She was tried and acquitted.
I agree, a voluntary - strictly monitored - option must be available. The crux, I think, is assurance of the un-availability of testosterone replacement. Perhaps a tattoo that must be searched for by a doctor before prescribing HRT? Or a data-base?
