What do Avatars Really Mean?

Post by Kortpeel (imported) »

Purely as a matter of passing interest how you guys choose your avatars? And what do they say about you?

Take Paolo’s Darth Vadar. It does seem to match his irascible personality. Or is it just that he gets irritated by some of the postings and really he’s a cuddly teddy bear?

NoMoreHotButt’s little boy makes me want to give him a hug. I bet his mom was so pleased with that picture. Ramses’s pharaoh is intimidating.

Perhaps worst of all is Bobover3’s cute little transvestite with his knickers down and a massive hard on. Absolutely sick and I love it.

And so on. What about people who don’t have an avatar at all? Just too miserly to use the bandwidth? Too shy or just too computer illiterate to know how to put one up?

Agggh! You got me! I am just too damn computer illiterate. I would like to have an avatar.... I don't know, maybe a "Jolly Roger" (skull and crossbone pirate flag) or pic of me nude on the beach... no, that belongs to someone else. Well I WOULD but I am just too illiterate computerwise to know how to do it.....

HEY! I notice YOU don't have an avatar either Kortpeel....

When I was thinking about an avatar the cover of the novel "Omtrent Deedee" (1963) by the Flemish writer Hugo Claus came in mind. The original white front had on top a twig with three or four leaves and two orange plums. I remember review of those days, saying the plums symbolize the castration of the main person, the priest Deedee. Also in those days I was - highschool student - once traveling by train and a youg soldier was sitting face to face to me, reading this book. I liked this soldier, an intellectual type not a macho, and liked the idea he was reading about a castrated person.

So at first I was looking for the cover or a another picture with two plums. I didn't find two plums on the internet and then looked for two cherries.

There were many cherries and I did want a twin cherry. There was a twin cherrie with a loose third one, which I didn't want. And there was twin cherry hold up by some male fingers. I considered them as right in case I was realy castrated symbolizing the very moment of my castration: a man taking my balls. But I'm not castrated, so I took the two loos cherries, symbolizing my desire for and occupation with the subject castration.

Shortly after I took the cherries as my avatar, I found the original cover of the novel on the internet and the book as well. It is a brewing story about an explosive family meeting - a family swamp. The main person, the priest Deedee, and a young problematic guy are admiring each other and get in in conflict too. The young guy says to the priest that they both are the same and points to the two plums on the side board: "You are a castrated man!" In the novel it is not clear Deedee is realy castrated or just a eunuch in his mind. Maybe it is the same with my profile - the plums of Deedee would suit me very well.

I wanted an avatar and could not decide when Mr.T said two guns for tugon(two gone). The image he showed was of Clint Eastwood with two guns. For those who know me I am no Clint Eastwood. A friend and I were looking for images with two guns and we found Mickey. I felt more like Mickey than I did Clint.

Yoli here!

I've toyed with the idea of an avatar to be used here.

Problem: I can't seem to come up with a Heraldic Device (some might say "Coat of Arms") that would represent me accurately.

You see; I'd take up the entire page with a rod and reel, shotgun, deer rifle, bass boat, a flaming American Express Card, "Little Black Dress", slingback heels, thong bikini, a Sybian, a caricature of my mani-pedicurist, a cute little peepee with an obvious vacancy beneath it, BG and WOBG, BG's Tank, a margarita, Nancy Pelosi dangling from the gallows, and so on.

Darn! Once again my hopes are dashed!...Sniffle.:(

Intimidating, huh.... I didn't really mean for it to be. I may have to change it now.

Cute, absolutely sick, and lovable. That's me! Truth is, I just picked something I like to see.

Ramses - Yul Brynner made a wonderful pharaoh. Better him than Charlton Heston as your avatar.

It is just me as a little boy.

As I made a scan of an old photograph of mine, I had it full screen on the monitor. I moved my chair backwards and walked away to the side to get me something to eat. I saw those eyes follow me until behind the monitor.

It was a surprice that a two dimensional picture could hold such an reflection of me, and tell so much about a gift I have to deal with ever since I was that little boy.

Jean

I love a lot of the avatars, the funny way of Tugon, the being real men like Ramses and Paolo. PunkyPink, being simple.......ugh, I better shut up I guess
