Physical, emotional, and sexual changes
This is my first post and I'm wondering if anyone started taking say Finasteride or Dutasteride for hair loss and experienced side effects that got them looking and finding this site. I took Finasteride for thinning hair and within two weeks noticed that my nipples became hyper-sensative and there was some growth there. I thought that it was kind of interesting, but then after about four months I coudn't get an erection. I had an intense desire to masturbate but the best I could do was get about an inch and a half extra and it hung straight down. I had always been interested in transsexuals and even while growing up crossdressed some, loving pantyhose, yet this sudden impotence scared me and I did stop. There was a very calming effect initially, yet later on I seemed to be moody and would get angry more easily. I tried Dutasteride for about 4 months thinking that I would grow more hair and I noticed that my body hair became finer, fat distribution became more female, and yet at about two months I stopped getting morning erections and things that would normally get me hard had no effect. I felt smaller and it seemed that my glans was pulling up towards my body and the excess foreskin accumulated over it- making it look like I was much younger. I had more desire for sex but less interest in women. In fact, I would be horny and all I could do was use my first two fingers and thumb to pull in a very small and I think shrinking penis. The other strange thing is that my testicles sometimes felt swollen and hurt a bit, and then at night they felt much smaller- about an 1 1/4" by 3/4". It finally happened that my ejaculate instead of getting less was getting much more, and now it was as clear as water and would shoot out quite forcefully. What could this mean? Something changing with my prostate? I'm not sure what to do, as I am sexually passive and though am not passable I feel more like a woman, more now than before. My fantasies now are more oriented that I am the woman and am allowing a man to have sex with me. And this is all from just taking a DHT inhibitor?! What would happen if I took a small dose of estrogen to see if this is something that is for me?

Some medical info about finasteride...
1-Physicians should inform patients that the volume of ejaculate may be decreased in some patients during treatment with Finasteride. This decrease does not appear to interfere with normal sexual function. However, impotence and decreased libido may occur in patients treated with Finasteride
2-Finasteride is not indicated for use in women
3- Finasteride is generally well tolerated; adverse reactions usually have been mild and transient.
4-Year Placebo-Controlled Study
In a long-term efficacy and safety study, 1524 patients treated with Finasteride and 1516 patients treated with placebo were evaluated for safety over a period of 4 years. The most frequently reported adverse reactions were related to sexual function. 3.7% (57 patients) treated with Finasteride and 2.1% (32 patients) treated with placebo discontinued therapy as a result of adverse reactions related to sexual function, which are the most frequently reported adverse reactions.
5-The recommended dose is 5 mg orally once a day.
6-Finasteride may be administered with or without meals.
7- 1mg of finasteride is indicated for the treatment of thinning or partially loss of hair
8- 5 mg of finasteride is indicated for the treatement of BPH which is benign prostatic hyperplasia.
9- Finasteride lowers levels of a key hormone called DHT(dihydrotestosterone), which is a major cause of prostate growth. Lowering DHT leads to shrinkage of the enlarged prostate gland in most men. This can lead to gradual improvement in urine flow and symptoms over the next several months. Finasteride will help reduce the need for surgery. However, since each case of BPH is different, you should know that;
Even though the prostate shrinks, you may NOT notice an improvement in urine flow or symptoms.
You may need to take Finasteride for six (6) months or more to see whether it improves your symptoms.
Therapy with Finasteride may reduce your risk for the need for surgery.
So friends as you see this is not something to be used without the approval any physician...
Greetings from istanbul
Hakan

Re: Physical, emotional, and sexual changes
Thanks Hakan. I have read up on many studies and even on the propecia help forum and yes, I was prescibed by a doctor. It was just that upon taking the medication, I don't know if one could say I was somewhat "castrated," the feeling of not having to be the dominant man and just accept that I probably won't have to worry about pleasing women was relaxing. I did read a few instances where individuals have said they believed their sexual orientations shifted when either prescribed female hormones or on antiandrogens. For me, my sex drive hasn't decreased, only that I'm not thinking about woman that much anymore. I either want to be that woman or have a woman dominate me and feminize me for her, or her and her husband.

Re: Physical, emotional, and sexual changes
Some can get the described side effects. The degree of the effects will vary greatly from one person to another. Age has a lot to do with it. Also the amount of testosterone you make is a big variable. If you produce a larger amount then the effects will be far lesser. If you are on the lower side the effects are greater for the drug has to only effect a much smaller production ratio. The effect may go away for some. The effects you have effect parts of your body more in one area then another. You may get nipple changes and no weight gain. No noticeable genital changes but changes in ejaculated. One never knows just how the drug will effect you. For most guys the most noticeable effect is just changes in head hair loss. You have to out weigh the side effects for yourself. If you want them and the benefit it will do for the hair loss. Can be a hard choice.

Re: Physical, emotional, and sexual changes
Thanks Bobby
You are right changes are unpredictable and vary greatly from one individual to another. I've had some issues where I get moody and easily angry. I think it's because there's more testosterone since it's not being converted to DHT. I've noticed, whether it's my imagination, that my voice seems higher and breaks a bit when I yell almost like when one goes through puberty. I suppose I could have my blood checked, just to see where I'm at. I also was thinking of getting a fertility test as I've read that some people experience a real drop in fertility when on Dutasteride/Finasteride. The whole thing has opened up new possibilities to me. I have always like stories of forced feminization and the like.

Re: Physical, emotional, and sexual changes
Your voice will not change when you take this drug. Even when you get castrated you voice will not go higher. That is just folklore.
Getting a fertility test will not tell you too much. Unless your count is below average it would be hard to tell if there was any change. To really tell if there was a change you should have taken the fertility test before the drug and again with the drug to see any change.
This drug is not very likely to do any real feminization. If it was a common side effect it would be taken off the market. Not many guys would want to take the drug.
