Re: Do not judge too soon
My rule of thumb is pretty simple.
If someone makes you judge them, it is highly likely they do not fit into your life, unless you like to judge people and mead out justice. Further, some people have lost all moral bearings and want to be judged. They are locked in a cycle of being a victim and a recipient of punishment. Their entire existance depends on this cycle.
It is easier to understand human nature and respect others than to feel compelled to seek justice for ones self or others.

Re: Do not judge too soon
Possibly, we speak of different types or levels of, "judging".
My post has been about individuals judging their own action via their choice and a loss of this as we witness the greed and legal thievery going on.
I also asked the question of when would a friend, tell a friend they crossed a moral or ethical boundary. In my H.O.A. we have such immoral, unethical and illegal goings on and those who know it, still fall in line. No one comes forward and speaks that it is wrong to yell at old people at H.O.A. meetings for example or to give friends a free pass on usual and customary procedures or to sell one's own goods to the H.O.A. because one is a Director on the Board. These are not unusual or isolated, but very routine with many H.O.A.s I spoke up but, was chastised for it. I feel my neighbor's have let me down in that they know it is wrong, they know the facts, yet they play ball with the perps. I feel that as individuals we have a responsibility to judge the actions of others.
I sympathize for an emotional outburst at a grocery store. A couple years ago the pressures of life got so hard that a little thing at the store just uncorked me at an employee. Next day I brought them and the store employee coffee area some treats. So I understand, loosing it. And yes I wish all those plastic card people could opt for funny money as in the old days and cash only lines would reappear. I Hate Plastic Delays !
An emothional uncorking is different then a concerted secret effort by an H.O.A. with the attitude that no one can really take them to court. What about judging the more cerebral choices of others ? Certainly, Madoff and Ken Lay did not act alone yet no one has come forward and said they discussed how wrong it all was.

HOA... I would have thought to be a grade "A" prostitute... you know, one who could suck a golf ball through 50 feet of 1/2 inch garden hose...

I waited fifteen minutes after work, in a grocery line for a quart of milk last night. (I drank all the milk at home while GF was on a ski trip so had to restock) Well, the dude ahead was going off on how inefficent Safeway was. He went into his company and how he ran his business. He was kinda like a motivational speaker, with canned phrases from a workshop. Anyrate, after he left a few people in line made comments about the "angry guy". Most were kids, bums, retired folks, and an illegal or two, of coarse the manager was on break. I was just bored and hoping to view some action, he almost threw a can of beans across the store. How exciting! The angry guy, he made my day!
but...he should not work so hard to pay all those taxes, maybe he would not be so angry.
Vive la revalucion!

You seem to have run afoul of an unfortunate truism of contemporary American society. No good deed goes unpunished!

Call me a sucker, but I handed the cashier a dollar and told them politely to please move along with life, before someone else in line behind me opened fire on us all. I also offered to make up the difference in his amount of cans that HE thought rang up wrong, just so we could all proceed with business. I just wanted to check out and go home. And I did feel bad for the old guy.
The guy threw a fit.

Re: Do not judge too soon
I think somebody needs to point out that the founder of the Christian franchise left clear instructions about being judgmental. He said specifically “Judge not.” And note he did not say “Judge not, lest you upset the delicate sensibilities of those you are judging.” He said, “Judge not or risk damning your immortal soul.”
That pretty much agrees with m own experiences. For the least ten years my day job has been cooking for the homeless and for the drug and alcohol program run by the local Catholic Community Services, and at night I ran support groups for trans people. There is no end to judgmental people, who blame the homeless or the alcoholic or the transsexual, for all their problems. And most of these people attribute their judgment to Christianity. It seems the more judgmental they are the more shrunken, dried up and small souled they are. I invite you to compare the souls of Fred Phelps and Mother Theresa. One has a bitter pinched shriveled soul and one a loving kind soul. And I would note that Mother Theresa did not ask her charges, “Do you deserve aid?” She simply asked “Are you cold and hungry and suffering?”

Re: Do not judge too soon
Well you do have to be a bit careful who you approach if they don't ask for help. I once tapped an elderly obviously poor and somewhat distressed woman on the shoulder to offer her a $20 bill. The outcome was most embarrassing. She shouted and screamed at me as if I had assaulted her and everyone stopped and stared. Its a wonder I wasn't arrested. She was still shouting as I got on my train which fortunately came along at the right time.
Learned my lesson. Only donate to the people who solicit aid and ignore the rest

hoa has about 25 different meanings here at Vietnam. Let me take a few nice ones
toi hoa vang = I have changed in a good way
toi bien hoa = I feel a little sick / weak
hoa = Yang the male and positive side as used in chinese medicine Yin-Yang
I know very well that this has nothing to do with your posting, but maybe it makes you happy
loveU
