Spam Attacks of Late
Due to increasing spam attacks involving complex HTML and long-ass posts at that by 'guests', these forums are now "members only" once again.

I'm not sure how much this is said, but I am sure it isn't said enough: Keep up the good work, and thanks for all the work you do!!
I ran a Board for just a few months a couple years ago, and I know firsthand how much time goes into it "behind the scenes", and how big of a problem SPAM can be in Open Forums. Damned spammers ruin it for everyone else! What I would have given for CAPTCHAs back then...
Is it possible to make "Story Reviews and Author Feedback" read only/view only? The reason I ask is because this was one of the main things that drew me to the Board here in the first place. I wonder if there could be other people who are lurkers/"almost members" who would actually "take the plunge" and sign up if they saw this Forum. It was that way for me.
Re: Spam Attacks of Late
Uh, somehow I set this forum so that it's now invisible if you're not registered and logged in, and I have no idea how I did it! Before it was wide open, it was visible, and that didn't seem to encourage new registrations to post here. What got more commentary running here was when it was wide open, but with the complexity of the spam attack, the volume of it, and some of the html code that was involved, I'm not even open to the possibility of having it as a "free forum" again.

Wow man that sounds pretty bad. Wonder if they (spammers) were getting in through some backdoor/hack or something?
I would have thought that if you set this Forum to "View Only (no posting allowed) for non-members", then there would be no way for them to get in and post anything in this Forum unless they were logged in.

That's the point. It WAS an open forum. Because of the spammers, NOW it is not. No, there was no backdoor hack attack.

I've had to ban about 150 people for spamming on my site, and I've probably denied registration to a hundred others I suspected of being spammers.
Anyone posting has to register first. I can only imagine what a pain an open board would be. I'd be spending all my time deleting spam.
