I had a vasectomy 17 years ago - Would this have any impact on having an orchie?
Logic (and some wishful thinking) says that the procedure should be easier/less traumatic (physiologically)...
Much of the orchie pain/recovery discomfort seems to come from the "tubes" being cut - mine are no longer attached, so am I in for an easier op?
Old scar tissue from the original op could pose a problem...?
Any thoughts?

Re: Orchie after Vasectomy - Complications?
The reattaching of the cords should not be a problem. The doctor will open the sack up in a different way for a castration then a vasectomy. ( I assume you had one of the small cut or band aid vasectomy.) The castration should have a larger incision so it will be more traumatic physically. Recovery could be longer but may not be much.
The other effects of castration are far different then a vasectomy. A vasectomy does not effect hormones. The mental effects will be far different and need to be thought about. The physical effects to the body are completely different with the lose of testosterone.
When you go home with a vasectomy you no longer shoot sperm. The vasectomy can often be reversed. Walking home from a castration your life has changed. You are a different person and never will be the same again. There is no chance to reverse a castration.

Re: Orchie after Vasectomy - Complications?
I don't think it is an issue. I had a vasectomy 19 years ago and my urologist noticed that in my records. I haven't been castrated yet-13 days- but did have a biopsy done where the testicles were removed from the scrotum and a piece cut out to be sent to pathology. The hole in the testicle was sewn up and everything put back together. Doctor says the biopsy was more complex than simply removing the testicle. No mention was made about the previously severed vas making things easier or more difficult. I think its pretty much irrevelant in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think it is an issue...
Cool! I'll wait for your first-hand experience "report"...
Good luck!!!
...
Was (about) 14mm (scrotal) cut, 3 stitches/sutures - tubes cut, cauterised and tied off... Done in a "Government hospital"...
The orchie will have to be done in a private clinic - possibly a bilateral inguinal extraction? Alternatively, the usual scrotal incision, with some scrotal tissue removed?
I don't know... There's still quite a bit of "red tape" to get through before I'm "approved" (improved...?
)
Thanks Bobbie,
Yes, I'm (pretty-much) already "chemically castrate", so I'm well aware of the physiological/psychological differences/effects From a hormonal point-of-view anyway...
I just don't need/use my nuts anymore...

Not a problem! But as for an easier time - well, maybe.... My vasectomy hurt like crazy for almost a week. Orchiectomy was less painful, but took much longer to heal properly thanks to the skill (or lack therof) of the doctor. Your mileage will vary. Objects in mirror are closer than they look.

Re: Orchie after Vasectomy - Complications?
In my discussion with doctors they suggested that removal was simpler than vasectomy in at least one respect - the surgeon must be sure only the vas is cut/removed and that the testical remains healthy otherwise. With removal that concern is eliminated. As mentioned before I know my doctor took great pains to be sure he cut the vas and only the vas - sending tissue samples for verification and being very careful to see that circulation was maintained.
They also noted that in discussing removal in men who have had vasectomies there seems to be less of a concern - the leap to sterile/spermless has already been taken. I've mentioned before that while I knew vasectomy wasn't castration emotionally I felt as if the decision I made to have a vasectomy was 90% of the way there anyway. Note that this was many years ago before vasectomies were popular and well before no-scalpel techniques. Large incision, lots of stitches but still relatively simple surgery.

Re: Orchie after Vasectomy - Complications?
I was just castrated this morning. I also had a vasectomy about 19 years ago so I specifically asked my urologist before he got down to business if that would present any problems. He said it wasn't an issue so there is the opinion of an expert.

AWESOME! Thanks for the "expert opinion".
I see (in the other post) that you're doing well! Congrats!
