Androcur to Depo Provera

Post by Nacho (imported) »

Hello

I am now well 10 weeks back on Androcur (within the last 2 Years I have been on Androcur already for over 10 months) and I do like it as it is. The question I have is that I am wanting to switch over to Depo Provera and am not sure how to do it. Should I stop taking Androcur first day after my first shot or should I take Androcur still some days - Has any body done this, does anything change, or should I quit Antrocur well before starting with Depo.

Why do you want to switch from one to the other, is one better for the liver, or easier to take.

It takes about 12 days after an injection for the level of Depo Provera to maximize in the body. It also will take a number of days for the Androcur to exit your body so you probably could stop the Androcur when you start the DP. I have done both but started with Depo Provera and spironolactone before switching to generic Androcur (Siterone). I overlapped them for awhile but couldn't tell any real difference. My testosterone level was 95 on the DP/spironolactone (normal 280-1080). I'm going in for another testosterone test tomorrow now on the Siterone so should have those results in a week or so.

In any case these meds do not have an immediate physical effect when first administered nor do they stop working immediately when they are discontinued. I'm not knowledable enough to know how each lowers testosterone. I'm assuming that they block or inhibit testosterone in different ways so the delay and initial start up in the switch shouldn't be a problem. But even if your T level did go up in that time, what's the harm?

I'd stop the Androcur and start the DP the same day and not worry about it.

DavidB: Simple answer, with DP I do not need to carry Androcur with me while travelling and I do not always have to think of taking it twice a day.

clysmaniac: I can follow your thoughts, maybe there is some one else who has done the transition from Androcur to DP. I also do not know if both are working same way - can any one make that point clear?
