I hope to post "Roddy's Vacation Job" in the next couple of weeks. My good friend Paolo has agreed to give it the once-over.

So this is really a preface, of my own story, rather than a review of someone else's.

First, the theme - that in pre-revolutionary France, it was part of the culture among the titled aristocracy to use only eunuch page-boys where there were virgin girls in the household. I've done no research to find if this really was the custom pre-1789. Still less do I know if any latter-day aristos have attempted to revive the practice (which is where Roddy comes in.) Remember I am writing adventure stories set in a parallel society. Purists should not seek absolute literal truths.

Similarly while some of the French place names are of real places, others are not. I don't know if the Paris central market (Les Halles) ever had a rail link, and railway buffs need not comb the coastal region west of Dieppe in search of a locomotive graveyard - I made it up.

Besides Roddy, who was cut out for the job long before, six more pre-teen boys get "done" in the course of these pages.

Right now, I can only say thank you for delving into this world again for the archive; I just saw this post and the story in the archive, I'll read it tonight/tomorrow and post further applauds, claps and kudos once I've had a chance to read it. But I wanted to give you feedback now that yes, it IS apreaciated .

Yeah, I thought the trip to America (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/R/ea_214409ricky_vi.htm) (Ricky and Roddy) killed it off, but there are still plenty of holes in the Simon Compendium V7.5 (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/S/ea_175700the_simo.htm) to fit things like this in.

Someday maybe I'll update that...
