That's just the problem. In this instance I can't think of a good reason that the thread was closed, as I've seen much "worse" tolerated here.
However, my thread has given the desired result. It gave people here a chance to say what they think about how much moderation is too much moderation, or alternately, not enough.
I know as a moderator of another similar site, that I am sometimes operating in a vacuum because I'm not sure what the users or subscribers to the system are thinking. I've also noticed that a simple explanation of what is happening to let the users know why something has happened goes a long way to preventing frustration and discontent among the users, especially when someone questions us directly.
Allowing a thread such as this to continue will help give

For one thing the Archive is very open in many ways but yes, it needs to protect itself. Alot of disagreements can be resolved by the private message feature which is available to everyone.
