Tal--

That's just the problem. In this instance I can't think of a good reason that the thread was closed, as I've seen much "worse" tolerated here.

However, my thread has given the desired result. It gave people here a chance to say what they think about how much moderation is too much moderation, or alternately, not enough.

I know as a moderator of another similar site, that I am sometimes operating in a vacuum because I'm not sure what the users or subscribers to the system are thinking. I've also noticed that a simple explanation of what is happening to let the users know why something has happened goes a long way to preventing frustration and discontent among the users, especially when someone questions us directly.

Allowing a thread such as this to continue will help give

I am so sorry to hear all this.

For one thing the Archive is very open in many ways but yes, it needs to protect itself. Alot of disagreements can be resolved by the private message feature which is available to everyone.

If a moderator chose to delete, lock, or move a posting it is because there
was good reason.

Hope this helps, but I doubt it.

All I have to say, not directed toward anyone in particular, is that no one is forcing anyone to continue posting on this site. If the way things are handled bother anyone that much, they don't need to continue posting. You are not required to post here, and if you're unhappy with the site you are not required to stay.

This discussion is quite interesting, I wonder however if the moderators are as bad as you suggest, especially as they must have allowed you to put your points across so that we can read about it.

I dont think anybody thinks any of the moderators are bad... well maybe Blaise. ⛵ There is nothing going on with the moderators that is going to invoke a mass exodus. Some make bad decisions once in a while but hell we all do. Those instances can be taken care of on a case by case basis in private with the moderator. Then if you still think they are being unfair then sure, write a thread about it and discuss it in a calm manner like this thread.

I do disagree with daughter's tone, how if you dont like it you can leave. That's the same thing that is said to people who are against the Bush administration. If you dont like it then gehhht out. No, a lot of us have been around a while, we paid our tax and if we dont like something, we have the right to talk about it.

The three people on this archive whom i think are the most interesting are moderators. I always make a point of reading their posts. Recently it seems they post a lot less than a year ago. Then when they actually do get a chance to write something half their posts are about moderating and closing threads. If you really do need a new moderator so you can get back to being a EA member and not just the bosses. I suggest slammr. He has experience and he is hard to offend. trust me - Ive tried.

The crux of this topic seems to be the hair pin - "because i said so that's why" shut downs. Since this is in the suggestion section, here is a suggestion maybe 2 or more moderators would have to agree to shut down a thread before it can be closed.

Have to agree with randi on many points, also I guess I missed the part where daughter was appointed head of the archive, well now that I know I will be very careful not to offend her.It makes sense though cause I think she has been a member for longer that Kristoff and Paolo combined so fair is fair.

Election Day would have provided a catharsis for many members who posted on the Political Board. The "closing" of the Political Board a few days before the election made it more personal. It removed any chance at members expressing their views on what was a historic election.

Now that's not much to cry about for any length of time longer than five or six minutes. It ranks up there with spilled milk and stubbed toes. However, the timing more than anything else felt arbitrary and mean-spirited.

I don't know what happened in the chat room, so I won't comment on that. I gave up chat rooms ten years ago when I quit AOL for being too abuse-laden. Nothing I saw in the political boards here approached that level of XXXX (insert whatever perjorative you want).

I am a moderator on an audio site and in a days time there are many decisions to be made regarding a post and if it is beneficial or spam. When I delete a post or close a thread it is not anyones decision but mine. Many times the choice needs to be made and to wait for information from a mod in another state who is not online is tough. I make the best choices I can at the time.

The mods' here are not dealing with choice of speakers but sometimes keeping people from a dangerous situation. I had been a eunuch for 7 years when I found the EA. When I first started reading the message boards I knew from practical experience that much of what was shared by new members and in chat was fantasy not the medical realities of being castrated. In many ways this is about medical practice and needs to be more moderated for safety than other sites. Today there is much more correct information being provided for people questioning what is best for them. Men are on this site to remove organs that produce a powerful hormone that when removed causes some to enter into a deep depression and sometimes end their lives. The mods' take this seriously.

My other point is they do this for free. Much of their free time is spent on the EA. As a mod I can tell you the site I moderate was much more fun for me when I was a member. The responsibility of moderation makes this work more than play. This is serious business and they are serious about what they are doing. They keep this site a positive place to be and one that stays in guidelines so it is not closed. If you are a young man and you are not sure what is wrong with your life and you have concerns about if castration is right for you and there is no EA where are you going to go?

Thank you Moderators,

Thanks, Randy, but I have my hands full with my site. It's all I can do to keep up with what's posted on it. I usually only have time to look at a couple of boards here and to look at the posts of a few of my friends.

Perhaps it would be wise for all to read the TOS of the site before they make any opinion about what the site is. Anyone visiting this site agrees to the TOS

http://www.eunuch.org/main/index.php?special=Thetos

TOS

The Eunuch Archive Terms of Service

The moderators do have a say on what is done in the message board. The final say. (I am not a moderator in the message board.)

Blaise got what he wanted.

If anyone here has grievances with the Deep, Dark Cellar or the Political Boards, direct them to me. I moderate both of them.

If he ever wants back in, all he has to do is write an apology for his behavior and put it on the boards.
