Open note to the moderators

I'm glad this was brought up again because the thread that I think we are talking about (Doing Self harm on Chat) is an important one to discuss.

I would first say I support the moderators doing whatever they like as this is their forum. They pay the bills so to speak so they make the rules. If you want a different scene you can always start up one of your own. Free speech is free only if you pay for the megaphone batteries.

Frankly having lost one friend who did some self surgery I think every time someone starts bringing up the topic of do it yourself castration should simply be removed and the posts erased. We have lots of impressionable people. And from what I gather many posers who have not and never will be castrated that like to spin stories about how "hot" it is to have your balls removed. The impressionable people read this junk and see how easy it is to do themselves be it with farm equipment or medical equipment and soon you have some poor guy in the ER who "HOPEFULLY" recovers. Or like at least one former EA chum dies later from complications.

Bobbie calls it "self harm" and I think most of agree the ONLY way this should be done is by a surgeon. Some of us disagree on how many hoops ought to be jumped through to make that happen.

While I do, of course, see your point, there are problems in that direction, too. If we take the "surgery only" route, we might as well rename this the "castration fantasy forum." With only a couple doctors willing to perform voluntary castrations, and the most accessible of them apparently losing his touch, those of us who aren't fortunate enough to be transgendered or have medical need of castration will forever live in fantasy-land.

I'm not saying self-harm is the way to go, or that we should necessarily allow discussion of it. I'm just saying there are consequences to that route, too.

Blaise, a close friend of mind, was banned for two good reasons: (1) He was bitching too damn much about nothing. The political boards are as fun as they ever were and I see nothing wrong with them..now. (2) Blaise was banned because he repeatedly asked to be banned or dare administrators to ban him. Blaise got what he wanted.

If anyone here has grievances with the Deep, Dark Cellar or the Political Boards, direct them to me. I moderate both of them.

I don't see a problem with the political boards at all. They were temporarily shut down before the election because some people were getting way to personal and a bit nasty. So what. They were reopened in short order and all is good.

As far as the self harm angle goes, I have mixed feelings. While I fully support harm mitigation by having good information available, it is hard to sort through all the bullshit and fantasy which could get someone killed or in the emergency room/psych ward.

I personally would hate for something bad to happen to someone that attracts national media attention to this site because I doubt it would be that hard for professional IT people to track down your individual IP address and the next thing you know, Jeraldo Rivera or Nancy Grace is at your door step in the morning with cameras in your face because you posted something in a thread that was involved in a major media event.

I think you and I must disagree. Every Orchiectomy is "Voluntary" no surgeon can cut on you unless you agree. What we disagree about (I think) are "fetish" Castrations. Like the UFO Cult people or the guy who wants it done by groups of evil whip wielding women with their sleeves rolled up or whatever. And frankly I don't mind that this is not easily available to them. Its these types of people that had my Urologist second guessing my motives. Is he one of THEM?

Is there a gap for men with slightly less "Mainstream" motives? I've gone back and forth on that. I clearly support pedaphiles who want to be castrated. I've got kids and the less adults who want to rape and or kill kids the better. Is there a way for them to get that done? I "think" so. As to UFO cults and people who want their balls fried up for dinner? I frankly don't give a $hit.

I think the consequences are that we are not supporting or encouraging people to hurt themselves. The member I mentioned took a mirror some numbing drugs and a scapel and put himself directly into the ER long enough to recover and be locked up in the rubber room. He died from complications when a Urologist tried to straighten out the mess.

Well you brought it up. Fantasy IS the story section. I've read more then a few stories. Many are (I admit) not even close to being my cup of tea because I think they are just what? Rubbish? Guys having a last ejaculation while having their nads cut off with a butcher knife? Outside of the obvious (The guy WILL bleed to death and if somehow he doesn't I can't imagine the number of infections he would have) I rather doubt anyone ANYONE could have that happen and have the slightest chance of climaxing. This hurts like hell WITH opiates!

Slaves and all that? Huh? I'm pretty vanilla but so much of that is semi criminal crazy stuff to me. And anything with kids? Its fortunate that I am not the moderator because that $hi& would ALL be flushed and turned over to the cops if I were in charge.

Mr. T. raises some good points, and such is the problem of having to deal with the fantasy aspect AND the reality aspect. This site tries to cater to both, and it's not easy to manage. No matter what you do, you're going to piss someone off.

As for that last line about the fiction stories that involve minors - that has been and probably will be (sometime in the future, I am sure) what causes the entire story archive to "be flushed".

(Which by the way, is extremely easy to do and would take about a second.)

Also, this thread isn't going to veer in that direction, either. If you want to say something about that, start a new thread, please.

On the issue of the political forum, it's going to remain moderated for the time being. Almost everyone who likes(d) to frequent it has already proven that they can't be trusted with it being wide open. All that resulted in were reported posts, PM's, and whining email about someone being abused or the post needing pulled or edited. You might also keep in mind that a LOT of other discussion boards out there either don't offer an off-topic forum, or simply ban members at the drop of a hate with no warnings for violating their pages and pages and pages long list of rules. It takes a LOT to get banned from here. It really does...like posting "Go ahead and ban me, I dare you!" 8 times on 8 forums. That WILL do it, yes.

But all in all, I think this site (both aspects) are important and must continue.

Without the intervention of some members of this site, I could very well have gone the route of Mr. T.'s friend back in 1998 or so.

It is, however, (or so "I" think) time to start taking applications for some new Moderators.

A wise person once said "do not discuss religion or politics" That is one reason I keep out of the politcal boards. I am a moderator in chat and I realize that tough descions have to be made sometimes. Some ppl "me included" sometimes make the wrong choice... and I hope when we do we correct that. But also most of us have to err on the side of caution. So when we make a choice to ban or otherwise please bare with us. I know LT in chat but maybe the mod that banned him was either new or someone that is not in chat at the sametime. Oh well I'll get off my soap box. Dave aka sheep79

For one thing the Archive is very open in many ways but yes, it needs to protect itself. Alot of disagreements can be resolved by the private message feature which is available to everyone.

If a moderator chose to delete, lock, or move a posting it is because there was good reason.
