Re: How does HRT or the absence of affect you..
I've played with letting my levels drop off and have found that after doing it several times it gets easier.
I notice the lack of desire for sex first and then the calmness that seems to come with that lack of need. But like others I also notice the lack of drive and ambition and I know I get moody. Funny though, I seem to be able to concentrate better with low T. Maybe it's just that my mind is preoccupied with sex normally and that requires alot of brain power! Kind of like an old slow computer that can only do so much at one time!
Since the wife left and there is no sex partner the lack of desire is actually a relief. I never thought I'd say it, but after experiencing it myself, I can understand why some guys want to lose their sex drive. T replacement makes me like a horny teenager, and I'm old enough not to need that now. I do however need muscle and ambition for work. And, I'm just gonna' say this, no one take offense, I don't mind technically being a eunuch, but I have no desire to look like one. I've always been athletic and reasonably muscular and I'd like to maintain that look as long as possible, like 'til I'm 80.
I've actually been searching the web in hopes of finding some middle ground replacement that would allow strength and ambition without the T sex drive. Sort of a chemical on-off switch so to speak. I've read and heard Deca might be a possibility, any thoughts or experience with using this as a sole replacement?

It has been almost 12-weeks since Dr. Kimmel castrated me. At first the hot flashes were horrible, but now they are subsiding to the point where I hardly notice them. Sex drive is gone, but I can still manage an erection if I work at it. There is a definite feeling of "eunuch calm" as my mind is now free of distracting thoughts. Physically, I feel just fine with no apparent loss of strength (never had that much anyway) or energy.

The feeling of returning to teenage sexuality where every thought is SEX SEX SEX lasted for a while with me. I guess each time I had a sexual thought it was a surprise. Women dressed in a sexually stimulating way were like "Oh! Wow!" and before HRT it was "What a _____ Does her mother know how she is dressed?"
This feeling (for me anyway) dialed down rather quickly. I think it when you start on HRT that you have this Puberty part 2 going... Then its back to a normal sex drive. Assuming you have had one!

I've been on HRT of different types for almost 3 years. It doesn't seem to dial down for me unless I skip shots. Thanks for the reply though

So far, I have not lost that burst of sexuality. I really, deeply, and totally missed sex, thinking about sex, having sex, having evil desires for every nice looking woman I saw, and coming home to Dear Wife and acting on them. Before my diabetes started killing my testosterone production, I had been continuously horny from my early teens to my late 50s.
It is absolute hell for someone who had a very strong libido to lose all desire and the ability to do anything about it. As we have fine-tuned my HRT, I am close to being back to my normal horny self.
Speed.

Humm... Maybe dialed down is the wrong term. I still have the "need" / sex drive but the control over it becomes more easy and natural for me as I go. When I first started feeling it come back I think I felt like Mr Spock when he got his emotions turned on. OUT OF CONTROL! Now, I'm more like ahhh... Capt Kirk except I don't do it with Green Space chicks. Just Mrs T as often as I can...

Re: How does HRT or the absence of affect you..
i have been on androgel for years..it never gave my libido much of a kick..it did everything that testosterone does ..except make me feel really horny
i tried a product from australia called ....andromen forte...
my andro gel costs 8$ a day
andromenforte costs 1 $ a day
the andromen packs a wollup..i was a 20 year old in 2 days after i started
androgel is applied to the shoulder
andromen is applied to the scrotum..i read it gets converted to dht there and that is what causes the great increase in libido and the multiple spontaneous erections
i had sex every day for a 2 weeks till my wife got mad at me..so i quit it for a while

Andromen is essentially the same thing as Androgel, except that it has a much higher level of testosterone. Androgel is a 1% solution, where Andromen is available in 2% and 5% creams. That is why you got such a boost - with assumptions your doctor previously had you on high enough dose to begin with. Application to the scrotum does increase the speed of conversion to DHT - which is why it is generally not recommended as an application site - it throws the "normal" hormone cycles out of balance. OTOH, if the andromen is cheaper, it would seem to be a better option. Is it generally available in the US, or does one have to do an online order?

Re: How does HRT or the absence of affect you..
Playing with testosterone levels is not without complications. One can experience depression, sometimes severe, when hormones are rapidly falling. Friends have reported periodic depression when taking Depo-testosterone (testosterone cypionate) by injection once every month. The hormone levels rise rapidly and then fall. The half-life of Depo-testosterone is 8 days, meaning half the medication has been used by the body or lost to liver process chemical destruction. The cyclic up and down at this frequency of injection can cause severe recurring bouts of depression.
One can avoid depression by more frequent doses or taking transdermal testosterone gel or by switching to testosterone enanthate that has a 10 day half-life.
The transdermal gel is best, but one must avoid skin contact of the area smeared with the gel by females who may start displaying male physical characteristics such as facial hair. It's best to shower before heterosexual sex if using transdermal gel method.
Body builders tend to inject more often, even once a week with 200mg or more of Depo-testosterone or enanthate. They report increased aggression, oily skin, and increased body odor.
There is also a danger of dangerous levels of hematocrit with too much testosterone combined with ready sources of iron in the diet such as red meat, spinach and other dark green vegetables and vitamin iron supplements. Too high a blood count can cause strokes. A physician should monitor blood counts for patients on testosterone therapy. The treatment includes periodic checks and even removal of a pint of whole blood if the count is far too high.
If on testosterone and you want to go without for a while, tail off gradually instead of all at once. This may avoid repeat of hot flashes or diminish their intensity and frequency. Remember to keep up regular physical exercise to remain fit, as loss of testosterone is coupled often with lose of energy or perceived loss of energy that can lead to weight gain if diet is not also adjusted.
