Just started Paxil

Post by MyWorld08 (imported) »

Well All, just wanted to pass this on - I went to see a psychiatrist today, explained some of my sexuality issues, and he started me on Paxil per my request. Paxil - as some of you may already know - is the SSRI with the greatest incidence of sexual dysfunction (a desired side effect in my case). Of course, he was not too excited when I mentioned my curiosity about castration. I don't expect on a first visit anyone would like the idea.

Just a quick question for anyone with experience with Paxil. What dose do you find is required to see sexual side effects (impotence, loss of libido)? He started me on 10mg, a low beginning dose, so I don't expect to see any effects for awhile.

Good luck with your quest for impotence. It's too bad some pharmaceutical company doesn't come up with a drug specifically aimed at causing impotence without any other effects. Keep us posted on your quest.

I took Paxil for years to help fight off depression. I was on 10 mgs, I believe my dose was increased later but I don't remember for sure. I have been on Paxil twice. I was divorced and really didn't notice right away that I had lost some of my interest in sex. After about a year and a half i came off the Paxil for a while. I was OK and then the depression returned and I asked to be put back on the Paxil. Then I remarried and started to cpmplain that I had lost interest in sex and wifey really likes sex. The Doc switched me to another drug, (Wellbutrin) this was actually suppose to help my attention deficet (sp) disorder and one of the side effects is as an antidepressant. I really don't think the Wellbutrin has helped my ADD and the antidepressant qualities are not as strong as the Paxil was, but I am getting by. I have been of the generic wellbutrin for about two years. I was actually thinking about switching back. To me Paxil was a miracle drug. Everyone noticed a change in my attitute. However there really was some sexual disfunction. The Doc actually tried me on Zoloft and that did not agree with me.

It's been a few years since I took Paxil, but if memory serves, it was not too long after I hit the maintenance level of 20 mg that I noticed the loss of libido and started having difficulty getting and maintaining an erection. Since that wasn't my objective at the time, I switched medications.

I'm taking Paxil now for my Panic Attacks and it works great :) If it has an effect of decreased sexual thoughts, oh well, I can live with that.

I take 20mg once a day.

I took Paxil for anxiety for many years. I think that the dose was about 25 mg. I can't say that there was any loss of libido, but I became totally impotent. A long session of masturbation would result in feeble ejaculation without any real orgasm.

Paxil, however, tends to favor fluid retention. As I am troubled by fluid retention in my legs and ankles, my physician switched me to Effexor, 75 mg. which is about as effective against anxiety as Paxil and does not cause fluid retention.

However, it is as effective in causing impotence as Paxil. Masturbation feels as good as ever, but I experience no erections and only a vague, shadowy suggestion of an orgasm.

This place where I was once working referred me to the shrink since I got pissed at a few folks. The shrink referred me to a prescription of something like paxil. It was simply too hard for me to figure out how I was supposed to enjoy life by avoiding the sun, drinking no alcohol, and sleeping all the time. So eventually I quit my job and became so happy. It was literally as a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. No drugs for me.

I have been on Paxil for ten years, and although my raging sex drive has decreased a little ( this might be age) I have firm erections and even get off twice.. .I am less sexually compulsive now, which is good.. but I still crave a state of no sex drive.

A couple of guys who tried Paxil reported severe anxiety upon taking the first dose and had to stop it. They could not sit still or stand still but had to go out and walk all night long and almost went to the local hospital emergency room.

Tri-cyclic antidepressants like Paxil and Elavil are not for everyone and you have to be prepared for a possible bad reaction to the drugs. A small number of people have these bad reactions, but some reactions are severe.

Sounds veery much like an anti-depressant induced manic episode. Bipolar maybe?
