Personally, I see nothing wrong with having shut down the political boards for a while. While everyone is entitled to their opinions, tempers do tend to get out of control. EA is a supportive place to be, and I see this as just one way to keep the peace. Furthermore, if anyone truly feels the need to LEAVE the archive, by all means, no one is stopping you. I feel it truly unfortunate, however, that anyone would take that drastic a step due to a temporary lapse in your favorite topic. Did anyone really ever come to the Eunuch Archive specifically to talk about politics? I guess, if you're gonna go, go. Your account doesn't have to be deleted for you to stop posting.

I pretty much agree with your sentiments.

But one point that I DISagree with.... tempers here are FAR from flaring up. So far, I have read from several people, that the EA is a hate filled place, and I am standing there scratching my head just not seeing what they are seeing. I feel like I am standing in the middle of a dry, hot desert and hearing someone there complaining that the water is flooding them out and it is too damn cold.... sorry, I just do NOT see the floodwaters of anger and hate overwhelming us here. What is it? WHAT is it that these others see that I just cannot even get a hint of? Is someone PM'ing you with a lot of hate filled drivel?

I look through all the posts, and do not see one racial or sexual epithet, no hate talk, no "call to arms" or anything like that.

As for those who feel compelled to leave, that is an UNFORTUNATE loss for all parties. A loss to the ones who leave, and a loss for us who remain and no longer have the benefit of their point of view and opinion on matters. I posted pretty much a similar thing in the "Hate poll" thread.... I think that one is closed now.

I agree with you. I don't think the EA is by any means a hateful place. I think this is just about when people get carried away. We all have opinions, but need to remember that everyone else has an opinion as well, and regardless of what that opinion might be it too needs an acceptable level of respect.

Perhaps I don't really have room to talk about this particular issue, as I tend to stay out of the political forum.. Simply because I know how people can get when it comes to politics, and that's not specific to the EA. I mean that in a very general sense.

I don't think EA is hateful. I do think we all go through cycles of feeling happy or unhappy with our friends, and let's face it, we mostly look on EA as a 'friends' place. Don't we?

Like so many groups, blogs, etc.

So yes, every now and then someone will quit. Not necessarily because he/she feels unwanted, exactly, but because something sort of happens and a feeling of - what? - alienation? arises.

(I accidentally typed that as 'arses'. But I corrected it!)

Me, I've quit several groups in my time. And very often I've rejoined under a new monicker because - well, I liked the group!

I don't post here all that often. I don't even log in every time I access the Archive. But I've never (not yet) felt the urge to relinquish my membership.

I still have my balls and my willy (for what they're worth!), but I empathise with everyone here who considers (or has already acted upon) the impulse to rid themselves of those peculiar appendages!

I'll be continuing with the Archive for now. There are so many good people here, and I value my connection with you all!

THANKYOU! You NAILED it Old Greebo! I truly do believe that we should all take on that bit of wisidom and think about what we ourselves are feeling when we look around and see "a hate filled place," and we all need to consider that others may also be going through one of these dreadful cycles.

I have to add here, that I observe this "feeling of alienation" and other negative feelings seem to peak in their frequency and intensity for many people during the late autumn to early winter timeframe. I am serious about this, I cannot help but notice this as it is so obvious to me, MANY of my friends and loved ones seem to get insanely sensitive this time of year.

Feelings of anger and rage seem to flare up in the hot months, but really, the Fall/Winter is the time I see a LOT of hyper-emotional accusations (e.g. "you don't REALLY love me!" -or- "You never really understood me!" etc.) and friendships broken or at the least strained.

FINALLY, I WOULD love to tell all the members of the EA that if I am ever made the Universal and Omnipotent Dictator of the Universe, I will outlaw any elections during that dreadful Fall/Winter timeframe. Yes, I would love to tell you all that, but since pollitical discussion is off limits, I will just say I would LOVE to announce my candidacy for U.&O.D.o.t.U., but I am not actually announcing it until pollitical discussion is again allowed. Until then...

Leave,

Hell, better to be KICKED out than to leave... You cannot piss somebody off by leaving, you can at least give them the FANTASYU of thinking that they REALLY DID get to you, when the REVERSE is TRUE....
