The election has spawned some brilliant video clips on Utube.
My problem is that my download speed is too slow and the show keeps stopping while the computer rebuffers itself (is that the right term?)
It varies from one site to another but usually if you stop the video from playing while it downloads it also stops downloading too.
What I would like to do is download the whole thing and be doing something else while it downloads. Then play it right through without interruptions.
Is this feasible?

Re: Video Downloads
Unless you are on dial up service, sounds like you need better software in your computer. Is it that old? My old laptop is quite capable and it's 4 years old, antique for computers these days.

At least for YouTube: Start the video play then click the "Pause" button. The file will continue to download, as shown by the progress bar beneath the picture. When it's complete, or a good way along click "Play" and you should get an uninterrupted video.

Yes, you need a firefox extension called unplug or something similar - with it you get .flv file, which should be playable on local machine.

Re: Video Downloads
Try downloading real player software. It permits you to download and save video clips from youtube and almost any other source. Then you can view it any time you wish.
It is available free at http://www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk

Kortpeel I feel your pain. My system is also very slow downloading videos. As you said I start the download process and go off to do something else. When I come back I hit replay and can watch it without the breaks that happen the first time it downloads. Oh one day to have a fast computer and faster downloads.
