Courts, and not just US courts, generally would not agree with you. I witnessed this when I lived in Hong Kong for three years (a long, long time ago). If one buys something that has been stolen, and intellectual property can be stolen, then one does not own it simply based on the fact of having paid someone for the stolen property.
I am not a lawyer, but am commenting on what I have seen in my life's experiences throughout the world. Enforcement is, of course, the key to keeping Microsoft (and others) wealthy, and enforcement is sometimes a political tool.
