Major testicular and groin pain, and the military will not help.
I have been dealing with very high levels of pain after an accident that happened on base last April.
On April 30th, 2008, I was run over by a woman in a white SUV that ran a stop sign near the base bowling alley, sending my bicycle's frame into my groin.
She stopped long enough to yell at me for being in her way, and when she was told by a bystander that I was hurt (I was in the fetal position on the ground), she took off.
Base security did not take my claim seriously, as I "did not have a real injury".
Over the course of the night, a large hydrocele formed on my right testicle.
It became so large that it was crushing the blood vessels to the testicle, as my second ER run proved.
(I went to the ER at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT.) The receptionist kept cracking jokes about my injuries and pain. The hospital assigned a female doctor and a female nurse to me, neither one knew anything about testicular trauma. They refused to allow my wife in with me,. and they refused to get me a male doctor and/or nurse.
According to Dr. Catherine Glazer (The ER doctor), "Testicular trauma is never a medical emergency." and "Every time a guy gets hit down there, he thinks it is the end of the world."
She refused to call for a scan of any kind, despite my pleading.
I have had no luck with getting either the Navy or the local urologists to help.
The right hydrocele has recurred 7 times since the accident, each time causing a great deal of pain. One on the left has formed 4 times.
Each time the hydroceles deflate, they leave a void that allows each testicle to twist upon itself. I have gone to the ER for torsion, and the doctor untwisted it manually.
The surgery staff at that hospital would not perform an orchioplexy for me to prevent recurrance.
The urologist the Navy sent me to was a kidney stone specialist that had never done an orchiplexy.
The cords on both sides are in bad shape, you can feel lumps and knots at the upper ends of them.
The vas desferens on the right side is about 3/8" wide, and it HURTS!
The right hydrocele came back over the last week, and by Friday, I was vomiting in pain.
The Navy's solution is to perform a nerve ablation.
They don't care that I am having problems urinating, or the fact that I am having problems with erections, when I am able to get it up long enough, all that comes out is blood.
The bloody ejaculate started about 3 months after the accident, so I am stumped on that.
The doctor that I am seeing at the base clinic says that my problems are "minor" and that I need to give them time.
When you have a bulge in your scrotum that makes sitting and walking a nightmare, I do not find it minor.
To top it off, I have a hard time sleeping because of the pain, 2 hours of sleep is a very good night for me. I typically spend about 2-3 nights a week awake crying because of the pain.
One other thing about this, both testicles have shrunk majorly.
By the numbers given from ultrasounds done over the past few months, the right is about half the original size, and the left is between half and 2/3 of original size. The ultrasounds show that if I am sitting or standing, the circulation to both is impared, and due to varicoceles that formed in the left one (most likely due to the intermittent twisting), it is already bad enough when I lie down.
One final thing: There is also a lot of pain in the lower portion of my groin, especially on the right side. It hurts a lot ot cough, laugh and breathe hard down there. One doctor said that he found a hernia on the right side, and one possibly on the left, but the base clinic is accusing me of faking it.
I am sick of the military medical system.

It sounds like your testicles are damaged beyond repair. Hire a lawyer. You have got a good case of malpractice against several hospitals and doctors. You do need to have all of this well documented. A witness to the original accident would also be needed to cover that aspect. Any clue as to who ran you down? Leaving the scene of an accident is a felony in most jurisdictions.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Well.
If all of this were happening to me I would bite the bullet and go to a public urologist and pay for a diagnosis and recommended treatment.......but don't accept treatment;
under the contract you signed your body belongs to the military and you might violate military law purchasing treatment outside of the military establishment. Remember, as a member of the military you do not have the rights and freedoms that are enjoyed by non-military persons. You are bound by military law.
Contact military legal and provide them with the information you stated above, and with a 2nd party diagnosis (assuming it is different than the military's diagnosis).
Find out if you can file a grievance for the purpose of obtaining additional military diagnosis and treatment. Your rights under military law are limited, but you do have rights but you have to go through the system and process.
if the military mis-diagnoses or mis-treats the problem and you sustain permanent testicle damage, sterility, erectile dysfunction, it can be difficult to impossible to obtain justice or financial compensation (unless the injury occured in the line of duty and is properly documented). Without witness documentation over how you sustained the injury you can not prove it was not self-inflicted by accident or intentionally, on base or off base.
Free military medical care is worth about the price you pay for it: NOTHING .

Re: Major testicular and groin pain, and the military will not help.
I've had hydroceles and scrotal hemotomas a couple times due to frequently visiting dominatrixes. Anyway, the ER always took it serious and did surgery right away. Female medical staff always seemed even more concerned than male, so I don't think getting good care has anything to do with whether or not they have testicles. I do have some latent pain in one testicle that I'm thinking of having them look at, but I'm pretty sure they'll take it seriously as well -- I just haven't gone in yet.
I'm having a hard time believing your story, because it sounds so bad! Anyway, regular urologists will not treat you as you've been treated.

Sorry to hear about that, it sounds like you almost had ruptured your testicles from that accident.
I am sorry to hear the problems you are having with the Physicians, however it is normal to have such problems sometimes.
It can sure be a rough thing to go through and indeed I can understand how you feel as I have been through a lot myself.
Civilian Physicians are not much better and it can be quite hard to get help.
It is too bad this accident occured and I wish you the best of luck towards recovery.

It really just depends on the Physician it can indeed be quite hard to find a Physician who will help you out, I had a Urologist who said he did not belive in HRT/TRT for any young man. I have had others who did not look at the cause and would look at all other possible causes as well as avoid the facts, it took a long time to find a good Physician who would help me.

Re: Major testicular and groin pain, and the military will not help.
You must follow the advice to seek out and if need be pay for a civilian doctors opinion, and support from tests. There is no way that you should be neglected like this .
Having heard past stories from others in the military, I am amazed that they didn't just castrate you , and be done with it. I have spoken to several guys over the years y=who lost a nut due to vas deferens infections. Military doctors said that it was just easier to excise the offending nut, than to keep treating the problem.
Get a good urologist, and have him review your case. You should be able to get all the tests , and files by requesting them. They are YOUR medical records!. Provide them for a preliminary diagnosis, and then seek more testing if you still get resistance form the Navy in providing treatment.
I would say based on what you have revealed that you should figure that in the not too distant future you will lose both.

My advice is to document your case as well as you can and then contact your senator. The military services often jump when they get an enquiry from a senator when they won't otherwise pay any attention to you. --FLO--

Re: Major testicular and groin pain, and the military will not help.
Before going to a senator, get your commander and/or E8/9 to call the commander of the health clinic. Failing that, most bases will have a family readiness meeting with the base one star that your wife could petition on your behalf.
Alternatively, your base commander will have an open door policy; see him and have him put pressure on the health clinic to take it seriously.

Re: Major testicular and groin pain, and the military will not help.
The non military medical system is loth to fiddle with men's testicles so don't assume its just the Military. In regards to some of the advise. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR SENATOR. Going over "everyones" head is a sure fire way to make the rest of your military life a serious and full time living hell.
Go through your chain of command. One at a time. Be direct. Be professional and don't accept any B.S. if you think your right. State your care move forward and get this taken care of. Collect times, dates, responses and keep things moving along.
If you do a nerve ablation you have a fair chance of resolving your pain. Its hard to have pain from an organ thats had the nerves deadened. But it is possible!
Good luck and hang in there!
