Medication and Libido
For few weeks, I was off medication for depression. I had libido during much of that time. I have been back on medication about a week and already I have lost libido. Just an update. This is not a recommendation for anyone to take medications for depression. I like sex but I also need to avoid depression. So it;s a trade off.

what are you taking?Lexapro, which is supposed to have fewer sexual side effects than some other such medications. I have named it in other threads. Just an update.

I hear of folks having problems with it regularly. Suggest you might try wellbutrin (bupropion - there is generic). Not supposed to be any sexual side effect, and many say they get more horned up with it. It is a modified molecule of speed - and that used to horn me up as a kid..... It works well for me, anyway.

Re: Medication and Libido
I was on celexa for about 6 months. After about a month or so I lost virually all my libido. It was really interesting and frankly a nice feeling in a way. It just sort of faded into the sunset. LOL. I think it was really an opportunity to experience what it would be like to be a eunuch, in a way. Again not something to take just for that but if you are ever on it, you may find the side effect interesting.

Re: Medication and Libido
I had very good results with Celexa. I was self-harming due to overactive libido on a daily basis, and within a day of starting Celexa I stopped completely.
I definitely recommend that any guy with libido problems who still likes the other effects of testosterone (male body shape, aggressiveness, strength) should try Celexa and other SSRI type drugs before any chem castration.
To give you an idea of the extent of my problem, I was seeing (and paying huge amounts of money) dominatrix prostitutes twice a week for years. I had so much self-hate for my genitals that I was doing extreme self-harm to them.
Since taking my first Celexa five years ago, I only have made half a dozen half-hearted attempts to return to my old habits.
The best thing is that I'm pretty much cured. After taking Celexa for five years, I purposefully stopped last New Years. And I have not returned to my old habits -- my new mood seems to have stuck.
So please, anyone with libido problems keep SSRIs in mind. Note that SSRIs can be prescribed for compulsive behavior, so it should not be odd to ask your psychiatrist to prescribe SSRIs for out of control sexuality.
