i have been taking androcur for a year now as a test drive, and have enjoyed the benefits of chemical castration greatly. I was originally planning on doing chem castration for 1 1/2 years to 2 years, but find that some of the side effects of the meds are showing up. Primarly blurry vision. So if things are good is it to early to decide to go ahead.

It would be miss guiding for any one to say yes or no

5 years down the road you may come up against a side effect

That you would rather die than to live with this choice can and should be

Self Castration for over 6 months has probably done irreversable things to you already. Personally I would say talk to a therapist HARD about this before doing anything un-doable. And NOT get advice from here. Your going to get a lot of bias. What you really want is a 3rd party to talk to.

I would say if your intent was to "try before you buy" that one year is probably long enough, assuming you're content with not having any hormones. You've had time enough to determine if you think this life is one you can live with. I'll also agree, you've been on it long enough you've done some irreprable change to your body.

The decision, as always, is up to you. Only you know what you really want.

I agree with Mr.T about talking with a good therapist because it is different for everyone. For some people less than a year may be enought to know while others make need to take more than a year.

If you have not done so already, I would recommend getting a base line on what your testosterone actually is. Castration is pretty close to 100% effective but the Androcur may not have been.

Everyone reacts differently to castration.

Even after being on chemicals, you may find that after surgery things change.

Some say in a good way, but many say otherwise.

Talk to a good therapist before making up your mind.

It's like the 10 year old Prince that got mad at his friend and yelled "THAT'S IT, OFF WITH HIS HEAD!"

It was pretty tough for the Guards to explain that you can't just say, "OK, ON WITH HIS HEAD"

The trick here is to find a "GOOD" therapist.

That's where networking is essential.

You need referrals from several people who you know and trust.

And the first therapist you see may be a mis-match for you .

Do not surrender a decision to just one therapist.

It's not like you had testicle cancer.

You have time, plenty of time, to think it over, discuss it with friends, family, and one or more therapists.

If you have any doubt then the time is not right.

This decision requires 100% absolute conviction for there is no turning back.

thanks to everyone for the advice. I have been speaking to both my regular therapist and a specialist in this area. the focus being on if this is the correct thing for me. we have worked out most of the issues, they both just wanted to see me on the chem castration for a year, which cannt happen do to the side effects of the drugs. thus the dilema.

because if for some reason you end up regretting having being

castrated you most likely will go in to a deep depression and commit suicide

and we here do not that to happen to any one
