Men may get testy at Cooking with Balls book

SQUEAMISH men look away now. A Serbian chef is bringing out a no-holds-barred guide to cuisine with a twist: The Testicle Cookbook - Cooking With Balls.

Hailed as the world's first testicle recipe collection, the cookbook includes author Ljubomir Erovic's favourite dishes, like testicle pizza, battered testicles and and barbecued testicles and giblets.

The e-book, available for download, comes with handy video guides showing the Serb peeling the skin off testicles and slicing them up into bite-size chunks.

Several different animals, including stallions, ostriches, bulls, pigs and turkeys, get the Erovic treatment.

"Wash testicles thoroughly for 30-45 minutes," begins the recipe for testicles pie.

"Once softened, mince them in a mincer."

A "very sharp knife" is needed for traditional style testicles, which get boiled, cut up and deep fried in hot oil.

Erovic, 45, may be self-taught in the art of testicle cuisine but his 20 years of "cooking with balls" make him a world authority in the field.

"All testicles can be eaten - except human, of course."

Testicles are rich in testosterone
and they are believed to be a powerful aphrodisiac in countries such as Serbia and China.

And with the credit crunch kicking in, more people may give up their rump steaks and turn to testicles instead.

Erovic also organises the World Testicle Cooking Championship, held annually in Serbia since 2004.

It draws in chefs from Australia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Norway and Serbia. One tonne of testicles are prepared for the event.

"When not cooking or eating testicles, or helping others to do so, (Erovic) now runs a company involved in the maintenance of medical and dental equipment," the book said.

It been a while since I was in Denver but restaurants there used to (20 years ago) supply lambs balls deep fried with batter as "Rocky Mountain Oysters" on the menu. I think the supply was seasonal and only available in the spring and early summer. My recollection is that they were tough (chewey) and not very tasty but a real novelty nonetheless and interesting to chomp down on.

For the interestedthe Testicle Festival is held in Clinton Montana or at least that is what Google indicates. Somewhere I saw a pic showing a pile of bulls balls on a tray from one of those events:):):)

Weren't Clinton's testicles something of a political issue a decade or so back?

So where do you get them and how do you ask for them? I mean, they are not packaged and sold in the supermarket, not that I've seen. Do you walk up to the butcher and ask, "Cuse me, do you have any testicles?" He might just punch you.

That is exactly what you do. Modt likely be able to get them at a local dressing plant. The grocery stores usually get pre-stripped carcases and likely wouldn't have them. The smaller, local plants would likely have or be able to save any of them, goat, pig, sheep, bull. I've had pig nuts - gamy, chewey, nothing to write home about - the fuckers sure squeel, though, when you bite into them.

It's mainly a cultural thing, I guess. When I was in Thailand about 5 years ago, my friend's girlfriend (who was Thai) ordered a special dish which she felt gave her more energy. It was a type of soup with a number of ingredients, one of them being testicles. She gave the order to the waiter who didn't bat an eyelid, like she was making quite a normal request. And she really enjoyed it! I should have asked my friend if he felt that it did give her more energy!!

PS: Lamb's testicles used to be called "Lamb's fry", which you could get from the local butcher. Lots of people wouldn't have known what they were eating, only that they liked "lamb's fry".

I like cooking so I'd be happy to have a go. I'll try anything once (except incest or morris-dancing).
