Will Prozac do the job

I suffer from fibromyalgia and as a result fight depression continually. I have taken several SSRI's with varying results. One thing I must point out is that there is a difference between losing ones desire to have an orgasm and losing the ability to have an orgasm. I have not taken an SSRI that has reduced my sex drive.

I have taken SSRI's that made me suicidal. I really don't think this is what you are looking for. Testosterone is what makes us think about and want to have sex, not serotonin. When I first started taking SSRI's, I took Prozac. My doctor told me that it may cause impotence for the first month but he found that has the drug starts improving ones mood, the erections return. That turned out to be true. At first I had trouble getting an erection, but after about a month, it was back to normal.

The thing is though, I never lost my desire to have sex and spent countless hours trying to get an erection and/or orgasm. It was upsetting at times. I later tried Wellbutrin and tried to kill myself after being on it only eleven days. It was prescribed to be taken additionally to my Prozac.

And when Cymbalta came out, it was supposed to be good for fibromyalgia. Now if you want a drug that will make it impossible to get an erection, this is your drug. But be warned, it does not diminish your sex drive one iota. I became obsessed with trying to have an orgasm and would spend 5-6 hours a day masturbating, but it never even felt better than just rubbing a limp penis. Never even got close. It was frustrating and upsetting. I went off of it after two weeks.

So what I am saying is, these drugs are not designed for the use you want it for and they won't work. They are dangerous and should only be taken by people who suffer from depression and are already at risk. Whatever your reason for wanting to lower your sex drive, the answer is testosterone blockers.

Yes, but you also have to acknowledge the difference between sex drive and sex obsession/compulsion. I have taken SSRIs that reduced my sex obsession.

If you're a hetero male that is plagued by sex addiction, the ideal result isn't to be a eunuch but would be to end up like a regular guy that is still attracted to women but in a manageable, non-destructive way. SSRI did that for me. I still loved women, but I would not make bad decisions like skipping work to visit massage parlors.

I agree that testosterone is the root of sex drive, but getting rid of testosterone is not satisfactory for a guy who still wants to be athletic, dominant in business, and good with the ladies.

If you're truly done with being "male" then yes, going after the testosterone makes sense. But if you're a male that is making bad decisions with your sexuality due to compulsion and obsession, that is brain chemicals and you need to go after that.

Anyway, your mileage may vary, but SSRIs are easy to try out, are less drastic than shutting down a major hormonal axis.
