Re: Will Prozac do the job
On the first meeting with the psychologist I told her NO! meds right at the get go. After the hour she did a synopsis of the meeting, then said "And for nowno meds." I'm kinda scared...as strange as things are some times...I like my brain.

Re: Will Prozac do the job
As far as SSRI's, I believe prozac is one of the easiest to get off of where something like Effexor is something of a last resort before suicide. While prozac has it's pros and cons and does have an effect on the brain and nervous system, I would think that it is safer than screwing around with the endocrine system by altering the GnRH, FSH and testosterone that can cause weight gain, depression, diabetis, osteoporosis and a long list of other ailments. Do your research as no one here is an M.D. All we can do is offer you our OPINIONS, our personal accounts and maybe the right direction to find what you are looking for.
SSRI's can cause weight gain but prozac 40mg/day is actually used for weight loss but individual results apply. For me, prozac has made me loose most interest in porn, erotic stories, masterbation and such. I can still perform fine with my wife (a little harder to cum) but I don't have any desires to persue much more than regular married/vanilla sex.
I feel as in control of mysexuality (maybe more) than I did when taking DP or androcur. Plus, DP doesn't make your tits grow or get tender (I swear, I never knew tits could hurt as bad as balls!). I have a new found appreciation of what women mean when they say their breasts are tender.
I even passed on a chance to nail some chick that was practically offering to let do her. I don't know that I could have passed that chance before the drugs. I'm glad though because I don't want to risk hurting my wife ever again. She is still hurt from what she found out in January and I NEVER want to do that to her again. I'm just glad I got lucky and didnt catch anything or get someone pregnant...
Do a search for prozac+sex-addiction and/or paraphilia and you will find a lot of info on what you seek. Please do your own research to see what is the best fit for you.

Re: Will Prozac do the job
Ramses,
Much appreciated. I will do my homework. I have no desire to become a different person on drugs. I honestly do not feel depressed, I overall like myself and my life - BUT not so much my sexuality. If I could just fall in love with a nice gay guy (would also help if he was Jewish), life would be perfect. I just can't stand my obsessions with straight guys, that's all. I would like some relief, but not permanently, so maybe medication is the RIGHT choice instead of something permanent like castration. I am FAR from reaching a decision. Mostly, I want to hear about people's experiences with both.

Make sure you have realistic expectation in whatever you choose. Neither castration or prozac will lessen your desire or need for companionship, love, friendship or closeness. It may just take yur dick out of the equation.
I think I do understand your delema though. As a straight male, I have a potential opportunity to meet and fall in love with about 95% of the female population (the straight ones) where your opportunity is about 5% of the male population. I can see how I could be in your situation if 95% of all females were lesbian... It really sucks that we don't always get a choice in who we fall in love with. Good luck, friend.

Re: Will Prozac do the job
been on a variety of antidepressant drugs both legal and experimental for my chronic depression, and all of them (except the experimental) really drove my libido down. Which I understand is very common for men, but like someone said above everyone is different. For me Effexor give me sever headaches.
I have found myself missing the libido, and purchased a cock ring small enough for the balls to fit through one at a time. When both are through they tend not to come pop out, but I do check on them and adjust.

Re: Will Prozac do the job
I know this is an old post but i thought i'd throw my 2 cents in. I originally joined this forum to help me with chemical castration via depo. i researched and figured out that a phyciatrist is the most correct kind of doctor that could prescribe it for me, and hopefully even get it covered under insurance as a hormone imbalance or something. my problem is that i'm bi and married. i love my wife and i don't want a divorce but for a long time i had been "stepping out" with various partners, most only once. mostly this was just once in a while but when my wife started on some prescriptions drugs that killed her libido, i was left "holding the bag" a bag full and no healthy place to unload it
I started messing around more and she was getting suspicious.
so I went to this phyciatrist and asked about depo. she said "oh that doesn't even work and it will make you really depressed" of course we all know it works, but she could be right on the depression side. so anyway she sends me out with a 'script for 10mg prozac. i did have some issues when i started this, the usual side effects, headhaches, insomnia, etc. but once it really kicked in, it definitely had an effect on my libido. i also have some form of anorgasmia, I have lost most of the sensation in my penis so that regular sex isn't enough stimulation to get me off. i can still orgasm if i watch porn and masturbate but it does take a while longer.
personally there are very few side effects at this point, other than the sexual "problems" that i was hoping for. I'm going to ask her to up the dose on my next renewal because i do still have some of the old urges, i'm just not looking forward to another round of the side effects. they say that prozac shouldn't be used indefinitely but certainly neither should depo. also the prozac generic costs me less than $5 month with my copay, no hassles from the insurance company, etc. I'm sure if you wanted a prescription for prozac all you need to do is tell a phyciatrist that you are depressed, pick just about any reason, stress at work, family issues, etc. any of the drugs in the ssri family will have a similar effect. paxil is said to be the heaviest on sexual side effects but prozac is a close second. also prozac has a much longer half-life in your system, so if you miss a day you will hardly notice, and if you ever want to get off it, as long as you are on 20mg or less, you really can just stop. most of the others are really harsh unles you taper off real gradually.

"Prozac Nation". I watched it in the theater, a showing with the director present. He said that the movie had problems being distributed in the USA.. Being banned even.
Guess I could recommend it.

Re: Will Prozac do the job
I've been on prozac for two and a half months, and noticed no change in this area.
(O.O I tried searching the forums to see if this had been brought up when I started on it, but I apparently spelled it wrong or something.)

Okay, while it is admirable for people to say "no drugs", anyone who is seriously considering castration due to obsession with either castration, libido control or orientation issues is by definition in an acute mental imbalance -- drugs are warranted.
Rather than hacking off your genitals, or ruining your life with sex addiction, or becoming suicidal due to unresolved gender identity issues, I highly suggest that you do try SSRI medication.
For me Celexa literally saved my life. I went from serious genital self-harm every day to it being only an occasional urge. I went from spending all my money on dominatrixes to rarely being tempted to frequent them. I went from not being able to concentrate at work due to sexual distraction, to being a star employee.
Brain chemical imbalances cause impulse and obsession issues, both of which most of the people here on EA have. I would certainly recommend trying an SSRI before trying chemical castration and especially before doing permanent self-injury.
The only problem for me is that SSRIs can make one fairly detached and a little "spacey". After five years of using SSRI to manage my castration obsession, I have been trying to find alternatives that keep me mentally sharp.
Right now I'm having quite a bit of success with various hormonal options. I took Nolvadex for a whole year and it also successfully parlayed my sexuality away from castration. The downside is that it made my skin dry and caused some tendon cramping.
Currently I'm taking Anavar (an anabolic steroid) and it has great effect of totally eliminating libido. Unfortunately it cannot be used continuously as it is an oral steroid and can have some impact on the liver.
I'm currently thinking of cycling through these various options -- use them while their effectiveness is more beneficial than the side effects and move on to the next thing once the side effects become tiresome.
Anyway, people should realize that anyone seriously seeking castration is in need of acute remedies and that likely means using drugs judiciously.
