I have seen a few users come to the Chat room, and start harassing the other users. I have come across a few that were Gay Bashers and were harassing a few others and me. (I can ignore them pretty well, but I'm concerned that they are scaring off the newer users)
There are also a few that like to get people worked up, as they claim to have been done forcefully against their will. Most of the newer users take what they say as being true, and get real worked up. I have caught most of them up in the lies they feed people, as they will usually say one thing that contradicts an earlier statement they made.
Anyway, most of the times when those Annoying and Rude users are on, there are not any moderators logged in, or if they are I'm not aware of them.
I think there should be a list of the moderators for the chat room, and fell like there should be a few more moderators in the chat room to handle those issues.
I case you wonder why I haven't reported the abuse, I dont see what that would accomplish, as the user can easily change their ID the next time they log in. And I believe I have caught a few of them that have changed IDs

Re: Chat Room Issues
I have to agree with SD about some people coming on real strong. I am still relative new here, which makes it harder to filter out the nonsense chatters and the real ones.
However, after a while being on the net, it's not that hard to make the difference between the fakes and the real people!.
And of course we all have to keep our guard up but it can be hard to maintain that right balance between suspicion and trust.
Sofar I have met some nice and real people in the chatroom, and that counts more then some fake ones.
Well that's what I wanted to say about the subject.
Peter. (off to the chatroom now LOL)

Re: Chat Room Issues
Unfortunately, we dont' have time to police the chat rooms, and even if we were to work up a list of moderators, it is unlikely that we would be able to keep someone online all the time.
I dont' say this to be abusive or cruel, but I am going to be blunt and to the point about it ...
I received a picture file some time ago with a boy with Downs Syndrome breaking a ribbon in a footrace. The caption was as follows :
Arguing with someone online is a lot like running in the special olympics. It doesn't matter who wins, you're both still retarded.
A rather cold and cynical analogy, but still valid. What's it going to accomplish? (For the record, I thought the picture was cruel and I deleted it.)
For anyone new to the chat room scene, it makes NO difference what chat room you are in nor where. Someone is eventually going to come into the room and try to stir things up. This has been a problem of chat rooms online since they were invented. That's what the IGNORE button is for. You highlight their name, click IGNORE, and the problem is solved. At least until they change nicknames, when you'll have to do it again.
Try to keep in mind that people who do this are those with too much free time on their hands and not much between their ears except for solid bone. Responding to them only gives them what they want, and getting angry about it isn't going to help anyone.

Re: Chat Room Issues
That is a problem with the chat room. There is no way to maintain the anonymity people want and yet make them responsible for their actions. For the user, using the "ignore" command is the only option. The moderators do have the option of bouncing a user and I have done so in the past.
Unfortunately the only real solution would be somewhat Big Brother-ish in that we could log every user and everything they said but that has a lot of negative connotations to myself and Im sure to you.
A couple of years back I was on the board, privating with a buddy, when some one came on claiming to be of years far younger than the age of consent and presently holding his testicles on a chopping block with a large kitchen knife nearby.
This of course sent the board into pandemonium.
The nay-sayers and the yea-sayer semi-pedophiliacs started screaming, but my buddy and I were laughing because it was all to evident what this guy was. Some middle-aged dope cranked up on too much beer had finally bought his first computer because his wife finally left his sorry carcass, somehow actually dialed up the internet, discovered search engines, discovered how to work one, fell over a chat board (A castration chat board? Oh I gotta see this!") figured out how to work it, logged in, and decided to stir a stew pot.
And stir he did.
I guess what I am trying to say, is just dont let them get to you.

Re: Chat Room Issues
Hmm, I guess I did not make my point clear.
I have and do use the ignore button on occasions, usually only when I receive private messages from people that continue to harass me, after I have said no.
I generally stop replying to users if they are in one of the chat rooms, but read what they are saying and warn the other users if things get way out of hand.
The point I was trying to make was that
I know there would be no way to have 24/7 coverage to the chat rooms. I'm on a lot (been averaging 6 hours a day), and currently know of 4 Moderators, and of those 4 only 1 (IEunuch) is on frequently, the other 3 (Bboy, Paolo & talula) I have seen very seldom since new Chat software was installed.

like some of the more active and regular chat members. A few people that could deal with issues that did arise, and keep things going smooth.
