"O Mio Barbbino Caro" as sung by Anna Netrebko is one of the most moving versions I have heard.

Right now I am listening to "sempre libera" a collection of arias by Anna Netrebko. I have no musical training and I learn about operas with discs such as this one. I also have cd's by Bryn Terfel and Andreas Scholl, etc. When I hear a piece that I like I then purchase the complete opera. The education is going slowly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, that sounds great. My dad learned to love opera from a music appreciation teacher in his seventh grade. She played recordings in a class on Fridays during the thirties and had the class sing along with the chorus. Seeing an opera in person as I get to do at the LSU School of Music is a great way to see how human and personal opera is.

The place to sit varies with the hall. I don't usually sit in the best place to hear the music because I like being able to look into the pit at the orchestra.

These days we can read the lyrics in English or whatever with subtitles even in a live hall. It helps to read them. It helps to know the story. but the greatest joy is the music.

I enjoyed a performance by the Louisiana State University Opera a few years ago. This aria is splendid.
