Skylar Deleon, 29, was rushed to hospital after the jail attempt.

A spokesman for California’s Orange County Jail said: “Somehow he got hold of a razor blade and tried to saw off his penis, but didn’t complete the job.”

The organ was reattached.

Deleon is awaiting trial over the murder of a couple at sea in 2004.
