Chat courtesy
Hi all,
I may not be the most active community member, but do enjoy the stories, board and chatroom. Overall, my compliments to everyone here who do their best to make one feel understood and welcome.
Lately, however, I've noticed a drop in chat courtesy, though. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same?
Usually this manifests itself in unannounced private messages "would you want to castrate me?" or similar from "slaves". Hmmm... Am not a dom, never have been rt or online - so why the popularity? Not that the chatters in question read it, but even my profile lists interests that most definitely not include castrating others.
Since I really enjoy the community here, if others have noticed the same trend, I wonder if there's anything we can do to help newcomers get acquainted with basic chat etiquette?
Once again, am not complaining in general - love the community and have had many an intelligent conversation in the chat room. Just for those reasons, am interested in making this an even better forum for us all.
Maybe a splash screen coming into chat with a few basic rules? Any other ideas?

JustPaul the best thing to do is report to one of the ChatMods that a member is bothering you. They will tell the person to cease and if it continues they will be booted. The Mods really want you to have a good time.

Re: Chat courtesy
In general, my experience with the chat room has been less than good. I usually feel I have interrupted a private conversation and am tolerated, but not welcomed. On one occasion, after asking if anyone was from my area, I was told to "read the rules". I haven't bothered to enter their "private club" since then. It seems, from my observations, that the chat room is reserved for a small clique to interact.

I'm sorry you feel that way. It's definitely not a small clique and I find most people open and welcoming.

Re: Chat courtesy
Opening up a conversation with some like "Is there anyone in my area?" ... is a bit forward, I think, and many would perceive it as rude. It's not quite as bad as the unsolicited private chat with the usual "A-S-L", though.
Opening up with something like, "Hi, I'm new at this, and I'd like to see if anyone would like to chat with me, preferably in my area if you feel comfortable about that."
Back in the old days, it was a long time before I ever told Talula and Gem or anyone else where I really was. It was several more years before I shared my phone number. It took me that long to open up, and we were on every night chatting and sharing files, etc., back when the Net was pretty new to us and fun.

I also get lots of PVTs because people seem to think "Mister T" is a "MASTER" of castration or whatever. I try to be polite and explain that I am not only NOT a master but think the idea of slaves etc would be repugnant to the "real" Mr T and since I stole his "act" I feel bound to agree.
One nice thing is being called "SIR" a lot which I was told was good manners when I was little...

Re: Chat courtesy
Most of my PMs are of extremly older guys wanting to chat, which I'm uasually fine talking with anyone, but most are very perverted and want hookup with an innocent widdle young'n which I find creepy uasually. =/ I have met some nice guys around my age tho, but in the chatroom itself no one ever talks and it gets quite boring.
