Why Yoli doesn't allow alcohol in the boat.
I woke up to this today. It breaks my heart.
A three-year-old boy and a man in his 20's are in the hospital after a
boating accident in Guadalupe County.
here we go....
The boat crash happened just west of Seguin, on Lake Placid. People said
there was such a loud bang, people knew something was wrong.
"We had people across the street, which isn't on the lake, coming
running over here because they heard the sound," said Jim Monkerud who
witnessed the accident.
"We weren't sure what it was, we thought somebody might have hit a
dock," said Monkerud.
But it wasn't a dock. Two boats had collided.
"We ran down," said Monkerud. "You could see blood in the water and
people yelling and screaming, so we called 911."
"It looked like the boat that was pulling a tuber struck the back end of
the boat that was pulling out of the slip," said Game Warden Kevin Frazier.
The collision caused two people to be airlifted to University Hospital.
The three-year-old had head injuries and the man was on the brink of
losing his arm.
Fraizer said the driver of the boat had been drinking and has been
charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle.
The three-year-old has been transported to a hospital in Fort Worth. The
man in his 20's ended up losing his arm and is still in critical
condition at University Hospital.
Now, Yoli sez...
This is just another example of the stupidity of mixing boats (or guns) with alcohol. I've had prospective "guide" customers (client entertainment types) rant at my bosses because I "spoiled their trip" by not allowing them to drink while on ANY fishing or hunting outing that I'm in charge of.
To their credit, my bosses have always responded with "You knew the rules before you ever arrived at the launch or the ranch. She's in total charge and her word is LAW!"
Before this holiday weekend is over, I'm betting, there'll be more of these tragedies.

I read once that most males who drowned after falling off boats were discovered with their zipper open
. The theory is that they were drunk and peeing in the water when they fell overboard and drowned.
Yoli's rule has probably saved a life or two already.

I have seen a great many terrible things happen on the water (and some very funny ones, too). While working on the water there is a thing called a "slow emergency". It is something that you can see is going to happen, not in the next few seconds, but in the next minute or in the next few minutes. There is nothing you can do to stop it, you can only watch as events take their course.Every year in the time I worked on the river someone (or, more than one) I knew died while on or around the water, and more were injured. And these were professionals. A boat is inherently dangerous. Water is a hostile environment. --FLO--

We had a few of those "slow emergencies" on the railroad. i.e. You know that the train is going to crash into something or derail or whatever -- and all you can do is watch or run away to a safe distance.... In those events, time seems to slows down and you have one of those incredible "Oh Shit!" moments when your asshole puckers up, etc....

"Oh Shit!" ....
These are the well documented last words of dearly departed pilots. Except they are strung out with the appropriate overtones of disgust during the remaining and alloted slowed time. AWWWWWW SHIIIIIIIITTTTTT. Bang.

Yoli, I have got to say that it sounds to me like you are suffering from a severe case of good judgement coupled with a benign growth (commonly called a "backbone") and increadibly good luck.
That benign "backbone" growth is getting very rare these days, I actually wish it was a contageous condition. Good for you that you can keep fishing and hunting activities safe and sane. And as for the stupid alcoholic lushes that need a drink to enjoy something, well they can just stay in the bars and just keep their hands OFF any guns, machinery, or ordinance. I wish more people could grow a backbone like you.
Also you are suffering from an acute case of increadibly good luck in that you have a boss that actually trusts your judgement. That also is a rare affliction these days. Most every "boss" I worked for had "the customer is ALWAYS right" attitude and had no faith or trust for anyone of the workers within their own organization. You know the sort, ostentatiously obsequeous for any "Jonny come lately" or out-of-towner who is there, the boss who is falling over himself in a rush to kiss ass and expecting all the organization to follow suit. If I ever had a boss like yours, who would actually back up his people over the objection of a "customer," I would work like a slave for that sort of boss.

KUDOS TO Yoli;I am a recovering alcoholic and also recovering catholic. With the alcolhol I can relate with how people react when drunk. Most people who drink a lot (like me) do not have the brains or ability to stop drinking once they get started. That bit about having the zipper open when found overboard dead I can relate with, but I never thought about that as the reason. This might account for some of the drownings we had around colleges .

While this may be true I cannot FATHOM a male with enough BALLS to actually hang it out in Capitan Yoli's boat...

Re: Why Yoli doesn't allow alcohol in the boat.
As if the tragedy referenced in my thread-starting post wasn't sufficient, there was another fatality at my "main" lake, Canyon Lake, as well.
A guy being pulled on a tube was run over and killed by another boat.
Also, lakes in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area claimed SEVEN victims over the holiday.
Plus, a friend sent me pics of a ^$%%#$!-useless-^$%#$@~!-ski boat perched prettily atop a rocky point. Seems the drunk a55-apertures failed to notice there was no water there. No major injuries, but someone's daddy is REALLY pizzdawf.
No further word as to the condition if the 3 yr-old involved in the first incident, and the other victim, minus one arm, is still in one of our SA hospitals. The creep that hit them made bail but will face BUI and other charges. Most likely some jail time here and there should be a lawsuit as well.
I haven't been on the water for a long (for me) time. I could go to Boerne (Ber-knee) Lake, where gas engines are not to be used save in emergencies, but I want to fish that one at night...maybe 8PM-4am or 11PM-7AM, But most of my partners are either afraid of the dark...or maybe they think I'll drug them and take some "souvenirs" while on the darkened lake.
Night bass fishing is magical! When, somewhere in the gloom, a bass erupts on a topwater lure one's heart rate goes way up. Of course, if that "bass" turns out to be an irate alligator, wellllllllll. But some jerk killed the one and only Boerne Lake 'gator, so unless I'm fishing south of SA, perhaps Choke Canyon Lake (not to be confused with Canyon Lake), which is the westernmost natural range of the American Al I. Gator, I've little to fret over.
Yes, my bosses fully support my stance re alcohol and other jackassery on the water. Of course, they are covering their gold-plated butz as well since if something were to occur while I was skippering (as a rep of their firm,) there'd be lawsuits aplenty.
When I'm fishing with someone other than a firm's client I worry less and I do have some favorite bassin' partners of both major genders that I try to fish with so often as I can. I have a female partner who is the ONLY one that can keep up with me so far as catchin' goes. She can drive a high-performance bass boat to the edge as well, so I feel safer when she's aboard.
In that regard, there may be a new boat in the works. The current one is three years old, is in mint shape, will serve someone for another 15 years with reasonable care, and will bring a pretty good price despite the gas woes, since we have so many lakes nearby.
Little Yoli gets to select and equip the boat so well as design the color scheme...Yayyyy! NO! It won't be pink! Will report, but so far the choices are between an '09 BassCat (Puma or Cougar FTD), Legend Alpha 211, or Champion 210 Elite. (I realize most of you have no idea what I'm nattering about, sorry to bore.) Whichever of those is chosen will be powered by either a Mercury 250hp ProXS, an Evinrude E-Tec HO of 250hp, or a newer version of our current motor, a Yamaha HPDI Series II 250hp. All these boat are in the 20-21' class. Top speeds, NOT attained except in an emergency, will be around 80MPH.
It'll take about 8-10 weeks for the boat to be built once the order is placed, so it's not gonna be here soon and, frankly, I'm delighted with the current water rocket. But it isn't my money (Assume 53-59K, including trailer.) and it ain't up to me, GREAT!
Here's a Champ 210 Elite (You could have the Senior Prom on that deck!)
http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=145 ... tionid=310
A big beautiful BassCat:
http://www.basscat.com/cougar.html
And a Legend Alpha 211:
http://www.legendbassboat.com/bass-boat ... 1/211.html
Also in contention is a boat seldom seen in Texas, but a true "Rolls-Royce":
http://www.chargerboats.com/boats.htm (The 596 model)
But the graphics on the Charger are hideous (to me, anyway, although one can't see them when one is IN the boat.) and you cannot order any bass boat without it's signature graphics 'cause they're molded in.
Please note that there are plush seats that socket into little holes on the fore and aft decks. I stand most of the time, one widdle footsie on the pedal that controls direction and speed of the electric trollmotor (That black thingie on the bow.) but I can have comfy seat if I care to.
(Pssssst, Yoli.) Yes? (Shut up! Few CastrationFascinationAssociation members know OR care anything about bass fishing or the expensive toys related thereto!) Ohhhhhhhhh...OK, and...

Luv to all,

PS: A KinkyKastrationKoven Meeting/Swimming/Cooking out session is planned for this coming Friday. If anything noteworthy occurs or is discussed I'll report.
Sorry, lovers...I get a little carried away with "shopping".
