Surgery question

Post by Tclosetgirl (imported) »

Hope you don't mind me asking, know someone that has had one testical removed -

What's the usual process for this, are you out or do they just use a local anesthesia ?

I was always under the impression they kept you awake and just numbed locally..

Just curious more than anything.

Having just one removed is little different then having both done. It would be up to the doctor if a local or general is used. It seems almost split on what a doctor may select.

They put a needle in and wire you up to the "dope" then when they turn it on you go out like a light. When you wake up your in a different room minus your testicle(s). Oh, and from what I gather they put a cathater in after your konked out and yank it before you wake up. Plus the shaving of the pubes is done when your zonked out.

I had an undescended testicle removed ten years ago now. I had to go to the hospital where I was shaved and then put under by general anesthesia.

My former urologist did 4 to 5 orchiectomies a month in his office before he retired 3 years ago.

Always did it with a local and a electric cautery machine in his office thru a midline scrotum incision

he told me he never had problems with the local.

I was awake when castrated. Dr. Kimmel numbed me with a series of local injections to the scrotum, testicle (I only had one left). He also used a mid-line incision. Although awake, I was lying mostly flat and was not able to see much.

Let me make one thing clear guys/gals - I'm not planning on losing mine any time soon!

I merely know someone who had this done and it sounded like a local was not going to work for him..

Thanks

If you have a local done in a doctors office you may be given a happy pill and you will fell real good. Will not mind what is going on. You will just lay there very happy and relaxed.

Think in most cases you will have to go to a surgical office or hospital for a general. That will cost a lot more. If you are paying for it that could be a great factor. A local can be done in a doctors office at a much lower cost.

I only know about how mine was done. And if there is any question about pain issues I think it should be an Inguinal Orchiectomy. Ok, any Orchiectomy my opinion is do it this way, remove the cords (not just the testes) and avoid reatachements and later pain.

While I was curious about my surgery (Wondered if they videoed it - no) I was quite happy to be zonked out and not watch it. A spinal has a small percentage change of hurting you so I would not care for that. I had locals when I had a Vasectomy and I was NOT pleased with the pain relief from that. Probably (I admit) the dope doing it but it hurt like hell.

My vasectomy was done with locals. The first injection stung a bit but after that it was no sweat. I passed up the intravenous Valium, as I wanted to see everything and not be passed out on the table. I must say that it was rather weird to watch the doctor injecting my testicles and not feeling anything. However, it took me a full week before I could walk around with no pain.

I'd like my orchiectomy to be done in a similar manner, but I'm not thrilled about the recovery afterwards. I think that the inguinal approach is cleaner and less likely to cause problems afterwards, but the recovery might be longer.
