Amen! You voice what I feel. Thanks. :(

And since this fomerly wonderful site is
now a christain faith service site I'm leaving see ya....

We must be doing something right here. We're getting almost equal flack from those who say that the Archive is anti-religious and from those who say it's too religious. What's critical is that we all remain civil in our disputes, and that we seem to have largely accomplished.

I thought it was an over the top reaction by both these members. This was posted to the JOKE thread, and if Randy didn't want to read a joke about Jesus, he shouldn't have clicked on it. Many of us don't have the same belief he does and see no harm in poking fun at Christianity or at other religions. The analogy of insulting one's relatives is not valid, although these do remind me of the "Your momma" jokes, which no one takes more seriously than one should these, even if one is a Christian.

Free's post was ridiculous. Just because of Randy's post, he determined that this site was controlled by the Christian right? Talking about leaping to a conclusion... So sorry you're leaving, Free. I don't know what we're going to do without you.

Lighten up, Randy. This is a JOKE thread.

I will come out in saying that I am on the "anti-religious" side. That is, I do feel there is an anti-religious, or more specifically, anti-Christian bias on this site.

I think that when it comes to something as personal as religion, most of us are going to see the site as opposing our own position. Religious people will see the site as anti-religious, and non-religious people will see the site as too religious.

There is certainly a time and place for religious humor, but such humor on this site seems to be directed mostly at the Christian religion. How about picking on some other religions for a change? Or how about we Christians start picking on your personal views, and see how you feel about that?

Religion is a sensitive subject, and I do not understand why people consider it more acceptable than other sensitive subjects to poke fun at. Would it be acceptable to make jokes about race? Religion is no different from race. Both are sensitive and personal identities.

Use humor and enjoy it, but also take the time to think about what you are directing the humor at, and if you are going to direct it toward a sensitive identity, be fair and direct it at other identities within that same group every now and then as well.

Also, those who stereotype people who belong to any group, including Christianity, are asking for trouble. Saying that all Christians think or act in any certain way is generally not a smart idea.

How about a compromise: We all go to the next MOM and hug River, Rupert and "our" Jesus :)

Laugh at religion all you want. It takes faith to believe that there is a God. We take steps of faith everyday in our lives. It takes faith to believe that the bridge you go over everyday to work is designed to hold you up (Remember the bridge near Eunuch Central that didn't about a year ago. Any more of a reminder needed on faith here.) It takes faith to believe that the inspector of the crane was honest and did his job as you watch him (Look at New York City's recent tradegy. Need more reminder.) And it takes faith to believe that there is a God, that this whole thing of a Bible is true and real. But what are the consequences if you do not believe. Eternity in Hell anyone. To me, that step of faith in God is far more important. If I am wrong, I lost out on constant swearing, and a life of sinfulness. If I am right, I have all to gain and you that are making fun of us. Well, you then have all to loose. I have never been one to push my religion on anyone and never will be. So excuse me, if hurt anyone's feelings in this. Thank you.

I took note of a writers statement that he was a recovering Baptist. The closest thing to that is like me,a recovering Catholic. This statement upsets some Catholic people. But to remain in the church of the roman collar pedophiles one needs to not be real bright.I was reading the "the week " magazine and came to a ststement by Albert Einstein.

Einstein rejected God;Albert Einstein called relegion a"childish superstition"in a previously unknown letter put up for auction in London this week."The word God for me is nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses," he wrote describing the bible as "a collection of honorable but still primitive legends".Relegious and non relegious people have long scoured the great scientists remarks for evidence that he was on their side, but his public statements had always been more ambigious. In the newly unearthed letter, written in1954 to the philosopher Eric Garland,Einstein also said that he had "a deep affinity for his Jewish heritage, but did not beleive that Jews are"the chosen people".The letter written in German had been in a private collection for more that 50 years

WELL, EXCUSE ME TOO!

I never meant to step on anyone's toes with my snide remark, and I make them ALL the time, about religion and EVERYTHING else. Get over it, get used to me or just write me off as a harmless crackpot, if you like, after all, takes one to know one... 😄 If I lost you as a friend over this, I have but one reaction... How'd_I_LOSE_YA... ? (say it real fast, and slur it together.... 🙋 )

I AM SICK OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.

If I can somehow make light of an issue, I will do it... and believe it or not, some Roman DID nail Christ to the cross, and there was nothing sexual about it as far as I could see. (I WAS quite young at the time, however, 🙄 and I had to turn my head 'cause I know it hurt bad, ...and he DIDN'T have to do it, but he did, didn't he? )

Anyway, it is pretty horrible to pee in a cup and to throw a cross in it and it is pretty horrible to put a DUMMY HAND with a nail through it and hang it out of your trunk with a sign that said "I found Jesus". Anyone who does a trick like this in the Bible Belt should not be surprised if they get shot at... I mean, it ain't right to shoot at anybody, but put a target on yourself and who do you have to blame? 🤷

SO, I put my :shakemitk smiley on it to indicate that I thought that it was pretty stupid, and I had FAITH that my intentions would be taken in the spirit in which they were offered, and I still do, but even so, as bad as it was, it could have been worse and then I proceeded to say how...

...I could make more STUPID comments, which are probably as good (or bad :shakemitk) but I think I have made quite enough, now, and Paolo, I hope I didn't bring the curse of the floods upon you... if you get my drift... keep DRY, good buddy...

...and one more thing, DON'T BLAME GOD FOR THAT BRIDGE IN MINNESOTA. Some stupid MAN did it and he was ALMOST as STUPID as the one who nailed JESUS to the CROSS, but NOT QUITE... O.K.? :shakemitk

...and I'd appreciate it if you didn't pretend that you know what I am thinking, and how I feel about religion, and ALL of those things, because you DO NOT...

...I have been out trying to do good all day by helping people who were less fortunate than me, have you done the same?

...it is known as "...pulling oxcarts out of ditches on the SABBATH..."

😄
