It's about time that some forward thinking is introduced into government. Now it's time for some of the other backward states in this country take notice and follow suite. :)

This is good, but I don't want to get too excited yet. It may be short-lived. There is an initiative that will likely qualify for the November ballot. It has plenty more than enough signatures and is in the signature verification process. If the signatures are valid, it will qualify as a proposition. Basically what it would do is amend the California constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Because it would be a constitutional amendment, it would overturn this court ruling and same-sex marriage would once again be banned.

Proposition 22, the statue (not constitutional amendment) banning same-sex marriage that the courts overturned through this ruling, was passed by over 61% of California voters in only the year 2000. Have things really changed enough since then to prevent the passing of this constitutional amendment?

The good thing that is if the amendment does pass, it won't affect domestic partnerships. There is a much more restrictive initiative that would ban both same-sex marriage and domestic partnerships, and also go as far as defining man and woman. Fortunately this one can't seem to secure any major funding according to their website and so far has not gone anywhere.

All governments should bloody well get out of the marriage business and leave it to the interested parties to sort out if they want to get hitched, BECAUSE it isn't any one else's business.

There are arguments to made about underage marriage, but that is an entirely different subject. I AM TOTALY AGAINST any constitutional amendment that permanently codifies a second class status for one group of people AND that is exactly what domestic partnership is. It isn't recognized outside of the state or county where it was granted.

AS FAR AS ALL of the religious arguments are concerned the government should not be getting into the religion business either. Leave that to to the clerics and priests. If they don't want to officiate at my wedding then they don't have to. I will simply find a gay preacher of whatever. If the government starts basing it's laws on the bible the next thing you know they will make circumcision mandatory or something like that. Basically if it isn't your penis it isn't your business, and that goes for vaginas and anuses too.

A ban on same sex marriage is a step backwards!

DItttooo but hopefully no one was ofended :D

My eyes work OK but the signal gets mixed up somewhere between the eye and the brain, but at least it does make life exiting every now and then. 🙄

I do not know why christians feel the need to force their agenda on others. Since so much of it is misinterpreted. If two adult people are in love and they want to commit to each other so be it. I know some fudamentalists that are able to find evil in everything and I think that is a form of evil. Sometimes I think what is wrong with this country is all the damn christians. Those that emulate the life of Christ and do not preach from the Old Testament to support hate and their agenda please forgive me. The rest well you make a man twice as fit for hell as you are yourself.
