Congrats! Did you opt for implants? Anyway, I'm glad to hear it! Welcome to the pain free club.... Remember to lean forward when you sneeze or laugh for the next couple of weeks! And KEEP the jock strap and chub on.

& TAKE YOUR MEDS!

Oh! And Maderma on the scars! Everyday 3x and in 6 months you will hardly see them.

As soon as I was recovered from the surgial pain I felt exactly the same way. "Why didn't I do this before?" I think it would be great if you made a point of telling your surgeon this when you see him next and later (say in a year) write a note telling him your pain status and also tell the other docs you worked with. I don't remember if you had a pain doctor or if your GP was involved.

I had a long talk with my Pain doctor who said he really didn't have a good "take" on if Orchiectomy solved pain or not. He said "I only hear from people when things go to hell and don't work" So, I wrote him a note thanking him for trying the other options with me and helping with the diagnostics needed before my Orchiectomy and just to say "I'm one of those paitents you DON'T hear from because I feel great and I'm very pleased to be pain free."

The point being that maybe the next guy who sees him will get less headaches if he tries all the other treatments and asks for an Orchiectomy as his solution.

Hi there:

No one has asked the ?? but I was interested to hear how the inguinal approach worked out for you. It seems to me that it might result in less trauma and risk of infection than the removal through the scrotum. I think that most official orchiectomies for medical reasons are now carried out this way. I expect that the testicle is withdrawn from the tunica leaving it intact as a barrier to abdominal infection. I have always thought that the scrotal approach could result in damage just from walking around as well as the fact that the scrotum being the lowest appendage in that area would be likely to encounter inadvertant infection from sweat flow as well as bodily functions if you were not verrrry careful. Any views comments or illuminations on this approach vs the scrotal approach??

francis,

for my experience, I had the first one as a high scrotal, and this one a regular inguinal, for me, I had the most swelling, mild staff infection, ect with this surgery as compared to the first, but, for those who are dealing with the pain issues, I still feel the inguinal is the better way with less left in there to cause any pain later on;)
