New Vacuum Cleaner
Today I went down to a local retailer and purchased a Dyson slim line Vacuum cleaner, this came in the wake of getting the carpet cleaned to find how badly our old Kenmore upright did in its job.
I brought it home and this is after the carpet cleaners had left and had pulled a lot of crap out of the carpet, most of it was dog fur from Maximillon, a black long hair dachshund.
I then preceded to vacuum the carpet again and the amount of crap that came out again was just unbelievable. it filled the dust cup to about 1/4 from a one bedroom 800sq ft apartment.
I do believe that the dyson is a good buy if your looking for a good quality vacuum.
They do come with a 5 year warranty to boot.
It was not cheep but I have purchased the old style ones many times I do know that that if it lasts the 5 years its cheeper in the long run to have one of them rather then purchase a cheep one every year or so. Im sure many have had the old one that was Mom's or Grandma's I think if you try one you will never go back to a standard model again.

Re: New Vacuum Cleaner
Sounds like your carpet cleaners need to do a dry vac before they do the wet.

Re: New Vacuum Cleaner
The best way to clean a carpet is to go to the store or home depot and rent a Rug Doctor. Then, in lieu of their proprietary cleaning solution, substitute with the hottest water you can get from your tap, with a strong concentration of Oxy-Clean. If the water is white, its perfect. When you finish, your carpets will look brand new. It even works on that horrible oily soot from diesel exhaust (that stuff turns my carpets black). Just make sure that you vacuum thoroughly-- and that means SLOWLY!!!! Just a quick pass of the Vac does nothing. You have to go slow, and overlap each stroke. As a life long asthmatic, that is the only way. Speed reading is fine. Speed skating is fine, Speed drinking can be fun, but never, never speed vacuum. Take your time and go slooooow. You will find that even that old dinosaur vac in the closet will work great. Just make sure that the brushes are clean, you have a fresh bag, and the belt is in good condition. The same when you use the Rug Doctor. Go slooooow.
Good luck on the cleaning.
Good luck on the cleaning.

OK, now I'm interested. How do you end up with Diesel soot on your carpet? I've seen it in Towboats but not at home. --FLO--

Re: New Vacuum Cleaner
A few years ago when I bought new carpeting for the house, I bought the yellow Dyson. It is well worth the money. And if you have pets, it is essential because it really never loses suction and it really does clean. PLUS, it's bag free, all you have to do is empty the canister when the level rises too high. I roll it from the rug directly onto a tile floor in my kitchen instead of using broom and pan.
Considering how much carpeting costs, A Dyson is well worth the money. And your house is cleaner.

Re: New Vacuum Cleaner
Dyson's are overpriced junk. Entirely made of cheap ABS plastic. The beater bar clutch is good for about a year, and costs $90 to replace. $500 for a vacuum then another 90 bucks a year, no thank you.

You can say what you like this is a free country, I have just told you about my experience, This has a 5 year warranty, and I've got friends that have purchased them and swear by them. I have looked in to the reviews online and have found most are very happy with them, any product will have a detractor's and any mass produced product will have a bad one that comes off of the line. I will not have to put any money in to this for 5 years. Im sorry you feel this way about your experience with your Dyson.
